I am looking to replace at least one pair and possibly all 4 of my current tyres (205/55 ZR 16's) as the weather is getting slippy and they are looking almost semi-slicks now! (car is a C280 Sport)

A couple of questions;

1. Can anyone reccomend any good dealers in or near Yorkshire - reasonable prices / good service?

2. Does anyone have any analysis of different brands / models of tyre? I drive relatively speedily but not for hours at high speed - more fast A-road. Are there any reccomendations as to makes? Currently have Michelin Pilots but Pirelli P6000, Continental SportContact and Goodyear Eagles all seem to be noticeably cheaper - are they any good?

3. If I buy from an internet supplier, what should I expect a garage / tyre fitter to charge for fiting tyres I supply? (I appreciate they are not making a margin on the tyre sale so am expecting a fair cost).

All help/comment much appreciated.

HI , the 190 of yours my friend has is still going strong :)

Tyres , the best place ive found for tyres is Costco , im surer there will be one close to you and it costs about £25 to join , but , you will make that back easilly.

Costco only sell Michelin tyres and they are the best by far. The Goodyear tyres are cheaper but suffer when braking. I have P6000's on my car just now and i can't wait to get rid of them to put michelin pilot exaltos on it. The p6000's suffer from being a soft compound and wear faster and i just don't like them .

dunlop are supposed to be good but , you don't see them often.

Costco is prob your best bet for tyres.

Ohh and remember and save yourself a few quid and buy :

205/55/VR 16" as your car only needs a v rating

TO be honnest , the Z rating might invalidate your insurance as an unspecified upgrade on the policy ( any excuse )

Let us know what u get

re tyres,

My tryes need replacing also - all 4 on my E55 AMG - after 34k miles on 1 set I suppose I've not done too bad! just above the legal limit . funny though how the front tyes wear out at the outside edges whilst rear wear evenly across the tread - MB say this is a normal wear pattern for AMG's!

Tried ATS for Mitchelin Pilot sports quoted £1,010
Kwik Fit came in at £680 fitted, incl VAT!
Front 235/40 ZR18
Rear 265/35 ZR 18

any other ideas anyone ? I have no idea if a different brand would give better grip/wear, I just tend to stick with what was on the car from new.

Thats quite cheap at kwik fit.

We just got 4 michelin pilot premacys(235/45/zr17) for £525 From costco.

Kwik fit wanted 200 a tyre locally.

Try Tyresave. A bit of a messy site, but I bought a full set of 225/50 R16's with chrome stemed valves, balanced and fitted for £400 inc vat.

The F1's are soo grippy in all conditions, the car feels glued to the road....they seem to get goo reviews too, see Guy's link above.

Ask to speak to Duncan when you call, I think he is the owner and he did me a good deal, less than on the website.

Well, the deed is done, new shoes are on!

I opted for the kwik fit route, only round the corner from my office!

Holy ****! 34k miles?????

My Bridgestone SO3's are deteriorating at 8.5k! Still well legal, but I can definitely feel the difference in damp/wet conditions.

Call me a bozo who can't drive and can't afford an AMG, but....................

I have never had more than about 17,000 mile out of a pair of tyres, way less on occasion (Yokohama's baby!)

E55 + tyres lasting 34K mile = Give me your car and I will buy you a 1.8

WOW - preparing to get flamed

well.....
They might not be the same set after all! But when I bought the car in Aug 2001 (first reg Dec 99) with 17.5 k miles the tyres didnt seem particularly new & nothing was said at the MB dealership about new ones being fitted during its first 18 months . so maybe this is the 3rd set then. Even so, i still reckon I've done ok at 17k+

:bannana:

and no, I'm not swapping!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We got 40k out of a set of tyres on out C220CDI :D

( just throught i would rub it in)

In the end I went with Fuzzers suggestion and joined Costco. Got 2 Michelin Pilot SPorts for £178 fitted. Car at least has some traction out of t junctions now! Costco definitely very good - as Michelin basically run the franchise I think the service is top notch - and better value than Kwik Fit etc (plus they don't try and beat hell out of your exhaust so that you have to replace that too as they only do tyres!).

Costco are excellent , for tyres and basically everything and have the best aftersales service ive ever experenced if you have a problem. well worth the 20 odd squid a year.
