Uncle Ken Dislikes Motorbike Yobs...

His alleged intervention came after a three-year study by Transport for London into whether motorcyclists should be allowed to use bus lanes. A trial had found that accidents on two routes where motorbikes were allowed into bus lanes were nearly halved.

Is this all accidents or accidents involving motorcycles?

As a cyclist I would be bothered about motorbikes in an empty buslane simply because of the speed differential especially as some motorcyclists appear to find it hard to restrict their speed.

When cycling you can hear a car approach behind you due to tyre noise, but you are unaware of bikes until they pass you.

In Bristol, motorcyclists have been allowed in bus lanes since bus lanes started and afaik there have been few is any accidents. This is because the motorcyclists have to wait at red lights:devil: :D :D

It would be good to see proper statistics for bus lane incidents, most I've seen in London have involved a car cutting right across another undertaking it. Simple observational skills would reduce this sort of thing a fair bit.

I fear its the usual mispercerption of bikers as out of control, speed crazed lunatics. Most of this type only come out on a Sunday.

To stay alive in the city I'd say you need a fair amount of skill, consideration and awareness of other road users and eyes in the back of your head.

Unlike the typical car driver.

I stand by my original veiw that Ken Livingstone is a disgusting little s*** that needs to be kicked out of office and publicly stoned to death.

He deserves far worse than this.

The man is a communist, pure and simple. If he had his way London would be run like Cuba! Without the sunshine.

Speaking of which, never understood why anyone would wear earplugs!
Michele - I sincerely hope you don't actually mean that. If you're not convinced of the need, then take a look at this page. I have a few friends who rode for many years without hearing protection and now suffer from tinitus which is very unfunny. The damage to their hearing is irreversible. If you're still unconvinced that you should wear hearing protection when riding then just give it another 20 years and you could well have to learn sign language

I agree... the reason I am slightly deaf is because I didnt use ear plugs for many years.

I probably did about 20,000 hours of riding before realising the error of my ways. I still don't bother for short journeys in town but on motorways especially, the sound levels are dangerously high and any sustained ride with those levels are going to cause problems in the long run.

Never realised...

The things you do when you don't know! I guess I'll need to buy some earplugs...

Glad to be of help. Try out the foam type first (there are lots of different types available, so you may have to try a few before you find a style that work well for you) but if you do a lot of riding or ride long distances then I thoroughly recommend the custom moulded plugs. If you want to go in that direction then ACS (the link in my post above) are very helpful and are based in Banbury. I've used their DuoCom plugs for the last 5+ years and they're great.

Completely and utterly agree with you 100%. The man is a menace preaching the politics of envy. Boris we need you!

Uncle Ken doesnt like anything or anybody that doesnt either agree with him totally, and/or behave like his little lapdog.

He is far worse than a Communist, I have respect for people like Lennin etc but I only have hatred for Ken Livingstone.
What I would give to come to a zebra crossing and he walks out in front of me:devil:

Sorry but did I mention that I really dislike him:confused:

You could also try "Doc's Pro Plugs" (brand) ear plugs available from music shops (musical instruments rather than sheet music) and diving/surfing shops. They are not moulded but come in lots of different sizes and are designed to reduce the volume by a few dbs and knock off the harmful frequencies but allow for slightly quieter hearing of safe frequencies. I think they're about £15 and are available in transparent or other colours :)

Can we add that devil banana to the smilies please?

Nice find Spinal.
