Uneven Tyre Wear down to Canvass

Yesterday I took my 2012 C63 PPP to have its tyres checked and then its MOT.

Kwik Fit told me "Your tyres are good for another 1500 miles", which was a pleasant surprise.

The MOT results was "Failed due to tyres being down to the canvass" an unpleasant surprise. I was frankly incredulous.

The MOT woman showed me that despite the tread being perfectly legal, the inner edge of the tyre was worn to the canvass - not visible to a casual Kwik Fit Fitter - we are the ones who care - myarse.

So I am now £680.00 poorer but have a full set of Pirelli tyres , presumably much like those Nico Rosberg wore out on Daniel Ricciardo's front wing in Hungary at the weekend.

The wheel alignment test was £45.00 and was fine. All a bit worrying as a front end blow out is a real buttock clencher.

Anybody else has inside tyre wear?

I`ve had serious inside tyre wear on two occasions.

First a couple of years ago on both rears which was caused by worn trailing arm outer bearings.

Recently both front tyres - this time caused after new control arm fitted and set up then being way out.

New bushes sorted the rear and alignment sorted the front.

Same thing happened to me last week. 100% invisible unless the car was in the air and you were looking from underneath to the outside. Scary.

There was a thread about this earlier in the year. Evidently the C63 runs with excessive rear toe in as standard on the rear suspension to aid rear end stability. It can be adjusted out a bit I believe but there are limits!

Guessing this is worse in 19s? My 18s seem to be wearing very well and evenly.

Nope - mine are 18s and looked fine unless you lifted the car in the air.

snap. My 2007E63 front tyres looked good - a bit left at least. But one was needing air every tank or so - so went to check the valve and they looked at the inside of the front tyres and they were on threads - the young lad said to check the camber at Merc - have not done yet but will soon. Also, he said the tracking was out and tweaked it and now the steering wheel does not sit square in the middle - which annoys me! I feel a trip to merc and more money leakage

Same as my 2012 CLS63 but on the fronts.
Returning the car. Dealer said fine.
Mot showed the problem.

Scary thing is u get pulled over by the police its 3 points a tyre.
Accident then no insurance etc. and all the horrors that could bring.
