Guys

Any ideas of where or how I go about getting this done?

Cheers

Front row seat - my post guarantees a blow-by-blow view of the fight straight to my inbox. What more could I ask for a Friday afternoon?

Benjy - you might want to search for this topic - it's been covered before.

Good luck.

Ok thanks, I did have a quick look but they were for all the old version of command....I'll keep searching through.

I could be wrong , but i seem to remember Alfie saying that on the new comands , the option to enable video in motion usinf the STAR is gone , even in developer mode.

Sort of on topic. I saw a car on Top Gear, I forget what model, where the screen was polarised, so the drive looked at the screen and saw a sat-nav, whilst the passenger looked at the same screen and saw a TV. Clever I thought.

Yes, a few new cars are supporting (or about to support) this function - it is very impressive (I think TG showed a Range Rover, but it is fitted in various manufacturers' cars).

..The answer is out there, keep looking. I found a doc for my car on another forum, but think that my Nav disc upgrade meant that I couldnt access the right menu in diagnostic mode. My car is a E class and 2005 also

Without having the whole its illegal / dangerous debate the simple answer is on the new units the only way is with a video in motion interface. Easy enough to find with a quick search on ebay or google.

Yep you are absolutely right Howard.

Benjy - I think you'll get zero help on this subject from the forum due to it being illegal and highly dangerous...

Its for when I pick my kids up and take them home again.....its not for me and I dont want to buy a couple of those things that fit over my seats.

I do realise the dangers of it.

Thanks

Thanks Mavster!

Benjy, it has been discussed widely on the forum from both an ethical / legal and technical point of view.

Whilst it used to be possible to do this using "hacks", MB closed the door on it firmly about three / four years ago and this is simply not possible any more (if Alfie says it can't be done, you can take it that it can't be done).

From the replies, it looks like there may be a third party solution but (without going down the ethical route too far), I think that you would be putting yourself on thin ice in the event of an accident if it were discovered that you had enabled this functionality. An accident investigator would possibly use the existence of the equipment as a reason to not pay an insurance claim. You could also get into trouble with the Police if they passed your vehicle (or you passed them) and they could see the screen was displaying video. there was a lorry driver done for this quite recently (watching TV whilst driving).

Thats very kind of you to point this out to me and I appreciate your concern.

It was a valid question that I had posted up and you guys have told me this is something that can't be done. So thats that!. I'll go and buy a couple of strappy things to put on my seats.

Yes it's always for someone else in the car, and you would never look at the screen regardless of what is showing.

No, you do not realise the dangers or you would never ask such a question.

Try talking to your children and listening them, safer for us and educational for both parties.
