Greetings

I have a W202 (C280, Elegance from 2000) which has the standard sound system, which is awfull by the way. The only change I have done is installing a new Media System (iDA-X305S - DIGITAL MEDIA RECEIVER) so I can use my iPhone via Bluetooth.

Now I want to upgrade all the speakers, but I have no idea where to begin. This is my first car and I've never changed speakers in a car before. I have managed to find this schematic, but it is not very detailed. I want a really good sound system, the price is not an issue.

1) How many of the speakers should I upgrade?

2) What are the name of the two small diskant speakers on the dash board? How do I find replacements? [Solved: They're called Tweeters, which I didn't know]

3) Is the current system capable of supporting a subwoofer? If not, what should I get?

4) Do I need to install some new device, that is not already there to be replaced instead?

The two small speakers on the dash top are tweeters. I once upgraded the speakers on a VW Golf and it made a BIG difference to sound quality. I agree the speakers in the 202 are not very good. I guess a specialised ICE dealer would be a good place to seek advice from. I'd be very interested in knowing how you get on.

ALL the factory fitted speakers in the W202 are utter sh*te.

Ive changed all apart from the rear door speakers, and it is a massive difference to the sound quality.

andy27168 has custom built door panels on his W202 for the speakers if you want to go all the way and they look very good..

Contact him and he will put you in the right direction for the supplier.

I am not looking for something Custom-Made, but rather something semi-easy to install without having to change to much. I might look into it in the future, but not for now. Thanks anyway.

Hi,
Just replace the existing front and rear speakers with some decent 6.5 components, and run them off of a good 4-channel amp.
I rate Alpine for the head unit and Audison for the Amp and Focal for the speakers
