2000 W210 e320cdi estate
I have just bought this car in december 2010. sorry I have not formally introduced myself as I have just joined last month.

I am planning to upgrade my year 2000 e320 cdi estate on the following.

1) I have just replaced my air filter with a ITG foam filter. WoW what a performance it makes. I get a much better perforance.

2) I am planning to upgrade my 2.5 in steel exhaust system by a 3in stainless steel system for
a) perforance and economy.
b) noise and pollution control within MOT standards.

I have tried varies branches of powerflow and longlife. and was given varies advices such as

1) dont want to big a system as they will be too noisey and too little back pressure. I am not worried of the noise but I though for turbo charged cars the less the back pressure the better will be the perfomace and economy. some branches say they cannot do it in 3in as they dont have the equipment to bend 3in pipes.
2) the prices mention were all less than 50% mercedes original. So thats wonderfull news.

3) Dont fancy going to powerflow or longlife as they don't warrantly the clamps and fitting at all.

I did ring other places in the midlands wales and Northern England( a few in Yorkshire) that they will warranty everything including the clamps and rubber fitting.

So chaps please can you post any of your comments about reducing the back pressure for the turbo for better economy and response?

Some branches also mentioned due to the age of the car, you can legally remove the twin cats and will pass the MOT.

ITG filter? Tell me more.

Re: The exhaust, you could remove the 2 cats under the driver's seat.

well I did my own research on air filters. the cotton filters like K & N and greenfilter do give a higher air flow but they let larger particles and the cleaning period is shorter. the foamfiter gives less air flow but still much greater than the original paper filter.

so I am down to two ie ITG and Pipercross.

Pipercross is a two layer foam system and ITG a three layer system. Pipercross dont make a standard one and so want a minium order of 10 off . Lucky for me ITG is a better filter in theory and they do have the moulding for it .

renault12ts Thanks for confirming that you can remove the two cats under the drivers seat.

Sorry I thought this thread was not posted as I had a error meassage . so please ignore my other thread.

I checked with the insurance wont cost anything next year but will cost to change car details this year ie about £18.

Performance and economy?!!!!!!!!!Performance yes,but I would go for a well known company if I could

would be a bonus if cant put the foot down in traffic. In any case I have nothing to lose . It will cheaper than the oiginal. Would go for a well known company . would pay by Credit card . So any problems with the company will complaint to my Credit card.

any ideas which company other than longlife or powerflow? there is one which even remaps your ecu for you to take into account the new exhaust chracteristics.they even give life time warrantly on the clamps and rubber fitting.i have misplaced the name.
