Apart from power increase is there any difference in putting in 95,97 or 98? Best I can find is 97 around where I live here in N.Ireland which is what I always use from Star or Go.

On the fuel cap it does say min. 93ron but preferred 98ron.

What damage could it cause?

It's more a case of using the fuel expected to do the figures which should be expected.

Lower octane fuels will result in retarded timing mean less oomph and efficiency.

I've never knowingly tried mine on anything less than 99RON so not sure what the effect on this car would be - but I once had an M3 Evo which pinked on fuel less than 98RON (and you couldn't get 98RON at that period of time).

Momentum if it's handy, otherwise V-Power. I've noticed no difference in the way the cars drive with either.

I look at it this way, when I stripped down a 1989 Honda engine (1600 vtec) that had been converted to turbo for the last 6 years of it's life on a stock unopened engine, the bores and pistons were well within factory spec, it had been run on various fuels since 1989 covering 120K miles.
Modern ECU's will adapt to a predefined -+ % to allow for fuel octane, if the parameters drop under the -tolerance the timing is retarded or is severe, the engine safe mode activates. Same applies if you use higher octane, it will not exceed the predefined programed %.
I would say oil is the biggest contributor to engine longevity, it lubricates and cools, unlike petrol.
Marketing is a wonderful thing, yes I'm sure Shell add some nice additives but we need to see and engine or 2 stripped after running 100K + miles and see the proof.
Also, as already mentioned, the fuel leaves the refinery at a certain octane but this reduces as the fuel ages, probably not enough to make a big difference to the engine performance.
If a car has been mapped with a 98 RON fuel that's it optimum operating parameters, it will run on higher or low rated fuels but not to it's optimum.

Another vote for V Power as I've always noticed it gives a little more power especially on turbo cars
