V8 Fight Club

Don't say that, I'm thinking about buying one!

I am with you, love the look of the Quattroporte. I was looking at them previously, and they sound great.

However, doubt they are in the E55 league where pace is concerned. On paper at least it looked that way. Think i would miss the thrust of mine next to most now though to be honest.

When I switch between the S211 and the 212 E63, the 211 does not drive like an old car at all.
The E39 do feel old now. Bmws always age much quicker than mercs. I have a friend with one of the first E60 5 series, 530d... It's a shed compared to my 211 with 40k less on the clock.
The 211 55 is a devastating machine.

Lee, there's a couple of good ones for sale on Sportsmaserati at the moment. QpV s duoselect, one black and tan and one blue and tan.
When I don't "need" the estate I might look there but I'd really like a grantourismo.

That's ultimately what will decide if I get one or not; if we get another dog we'll need another estate or 4x4

After owning an E55K, it's what is maybe putting me off a QP; the soundtrack is to die for but will it feel a bit (dare I say it) slow?

Having bought the mag - its not bad actually - one thing they don't mention is that of the 4 you can only get the e55 in estate form, unless you count the alpina b10 v8 touring.
I wanted this but would have looked at any of the others if there was an estate.

I doubt it will feel slow, but the numbers certainly show it would be easily game over for a QP on a drag against an E.

I used to see one but never got to find out how it compared.

I think actually I saw it more when I had my previous Saab 9-5 - so I wouldn't have even tried...:D

But I did see it once at some lights but there was a car in front of me getting in the way...

I'm probably going to regret this but have you got any links to the adverts?

I sold my E39 M5 and then purchased my current E55. I do miss the M5 sometimes but I like the laziness and more modern feel if the E55. You don't have to work it at all like to the M5.

I sold my M5 with 211k miles on it and it still looked and drove great. It's only issue was the normal rust spots they all suffer from.

M5 for me too

Not surprised the E55 came out top. Until you are doing silly speeds/high revs, the M5 will always be in the rear view mirror. The torque from the 55k is the winner every time.

Well said Roger! :thumb:

I haven't driven the M5 i have to admit, but it is so true about the Torque of E55. The fun is there early in rev range, then you can back straight off. I drove my fathers lotus esprit v8 the other day, & even though its modified in 500hp range, nothing happens until like 4k. By the time it kicks in, it's too late as it no longer safe. (For me anyway)

Nice to see E55 won the group test in this month's Modern Classics magazine beating M5, Jag, Maserati and Audi.

In fairness, the W210 is the E39's sparring partner. The W211's comtemporary is the E60.

I have owned both and personally think the e55 is streets ahead but amokwa has a valid point with the w210 being the e39's sparring partner
still prefer the e55 to the m5 e60 as well :D

Neither are really, the W210 E55 came out 1994/95 and the e39 M5 was what? 1999?

Again with the W211, 2002 whereas the e60 M5 was 2005.

You can't just drop that, mid sentence, and then move on as if you never mentioned it at all!

Yep the w211 e63 would be the more direct e60 competitor I would say
