Just spotted a very low mileage 1993 Mercedes 190LE with the 1.8 litre engine.

Its only got 39000 miles from new and one owner. Bidding is at £985 but there are four days to go on this one. I reckon it will go for £1600-£1800 when the auction ends.

Any budding Charles Ironsides might want to bid for this and then advertise it for £10000 in Mercedes Enthusiast. ;)

Surely you jest!

It would be at least £22,000....perhaps even £30,000!

Have a look at the fellow trying to sell an W140 S600 on Autotrader for £19,000 - yes it has low miles but so what? Multiple owners, history all over the place, does not have anything special about the car (eg, the coupe rear seats, AMG parts etc)

He is pricing it against S55's.

Alas, you are correct Setanta. A x20 multipler on the true market value must surely meet the requirements for entry into the pages of Mercedes Enthusiast's advertising pages. :p

One wouldn't want to be seen underpricing their cars in that magazine otherwise they might steal all the trade from the other 99% dealers in there.

something about the car doesnt feel right it doesnt look like a 39,000 mile car and the colour is awful.

There are some people who believe that a car is born with the capacity of x number of miles in it's repetoire & if only a small percentage of those are used it therefore is good for the remaining balance.

For e.g. A 190E 2.0 should go for 130 -150,000 relatively trouble free miles with luck & proper maintenance. If it's done 40K then their reasoning is it is good for another 90 -110K.

This of course is flawed. It ignores the type of mileage the car may have covered, the long periods of inactivity & the tendancy of people to regard the 6,000 miles or 12 months servicing requirement as optional. They tend to forget the 12 month stipulation if they aren't doing 6K p.a.

IMHO it's better to have a car which has covered 8-12K p.a. of normal driving & been serviced on schedule than an underused car which has just been to the shops or the golf club a couple of times a week.

I don't like that colour either.

At that age I would price it based on condition rather than mileage - rust on the bodywork or a funny smell in the cabin might cost ££££ to sort.

Not my favourite colour for an LE, although there were a fair few in it, and the light grey fabric shows marks and muck much more clearly than a black one.

TBH you really need to see the car to value it, if you don't mind the condition of the alloys, it could imo be worth the money.
Still firmly of the belief that a late W201 is a better bet than an early W202.

A genuine looking car that will give an enthusiast a great deal of enjoyment.

It will sell for less than my ride on lawn mower.

It might even sell for the same as a Gembella 560 SEC in need of restoration ;) ;)l

The colour looks better in reality - I've got one and its a real head turner especially after its been waxed. They only came in three colours rosso red, azzurro blue and brilliant silver - and you couldn't pick the interior colour the red came with a biscuit interior, the blue with the grey interior and silver with black interior.

For such a low mileage car could the elderly owner not have invested in a seat of cheapo rubber mats that actually cover most of the footwell carpet rather than those cheap and muddy rubber squares in the front and back which has allowed the carpets to get quite filthy?

The car badly needs a good and thorough clean on the outside and shampooing on the inside. It will be interesting to see what it goes for in the end.

I've never heard any one call a W201 a head turner :D

A nice 2.3 or 2.5 might get a 2nd glance - bit never a head turn;)

Well, I can only say what I see...unless they're all turning to admire how beautifully good looking I am ;)

I like the colour too.

Watch this space as I may be selling my other 190e 1.8 , its a J Reg .

FMBH ...34.000:)

PS In white
