VERY low mileage 320CE

The headlamp wipers are set in an odd position too.

Its a two minute tweak to set them straight as I found out recently following a visit to the bodyshop..

FWIW, I'd say the value of the car depends on how its been stored/looked after - I've had quite a few age related issues with a low mileage car with a full history.

The carpets and overmats certainly don't look timewarp...

Am I correct in saying the vendor has no feedback?

Delete rear badges was an MB (and BMW) no-cost option in the 1990s. In Germany it was mainly the biggest engine variants that were "de-badged" whereas in the UK it was nearly always the poverty spec small engine variants that were de-badged.
I think that both MB and BMW made sure that the exhausts of the different models were slightly different so that you could still tell the size of the de-badged car.

No , exhausts are the same size .... saloons and coupes got the twin pipe for anything over the 260 IIRC , estates stayed single pipe but the 300 was larger than the others ....

Odd that this car has the centre console roll-top box....that was usually only fitted to cars which came with a pass airbag and as a replacement for the lost glovebox. Might be a retro fit.

No , lots of cars have them . Both my 300TE and 300TE-24 had this option , and it appeared on the options list when the VIN was put into the russian decoder . Neither of my cars had passenger airbags .

Strange though that if you flick through showroom brochures from the 80s they do feature the 201/124's in the oddest of colours.

I think Germany at that time was going through a sort of psychedelic industrial design phase. Trains, buses and cars were ofter painted or trimmed in combinations of yellow, orange (pea) green and brown.

Hi,
I really like this colour. Back in the day when facelift 124's were hot off the press I was selling them. One of the first facelifts I saw came from a cancelled MB Export order that my dealership managed to get allocated.
It was an E320 coupe in Rosewood metallic, Mushroom leather and 8 holes with the slight polish finish - it looked great. It had climate control which was indeed rare on UK cars but more common on the foreign cars. I remember it had a couple of other extras and a price ticket of £50,000 - that was a lot of money back then!

I could not live with that colour. Just on the point of the sportline badges. I have just bought a 1994 E220 coupe sportline - it has the badges on the wings - its a UK model.

What's the easiest way to identify a sportline model - other than its badges?

The most obvious way to visually identify a Sportline car is to check the tyre size.
Sportline Cars have wider alloys and wheels. The tyres were 205/55/R15 on 7J wheels, where as standard alloy wheel option was 6.5J, the tyres being 195/60/R15.
I think those are the correct figures. The tyre profile could be 60 and 65 for Sportline and standard, respectively. Either way it's an incredment difference of 5 :)
Also, I believe my quoted wheel width is correct, but it could be 7J and 7.5J. Again, my incredment difference is correct, though.
Can a fellow member clarify figures, please? :)

If compared directly with a non-sportline car, you'd spot it sitting lower. If the Sportline car has the 15-hole alloys, you can see they are wider, as the wheel face appears to have a deeper "dish" than the standard alloys.

What's up with the centre console ?

Talbir mentions it in post #15, its a roll top center console and they did not come on K redg cars (im sure they had just big spaces)

Have you got a link for the other one, please? :)

Darren

its in the spotted on ebay part, it was a light green 4 door 190 i think, im sure others took more notice than me

Courtesy of Wikipedia. But mine does not have a badge on the gear knob?

Mercedes-Benz offered an option called "Sportline" for the W124 and W201 chassis cars. This option was available in the North American market for the 1992-93 model year 190E 2.6, 1992-93 300E/300CE and 1993-95 E320/E320 Coupe. In the European market, however, the "Sportline" option was available for all body styles. The option package included sport seating (sedans, not coupes), wider wheels (7" rather than 6.5") and lower profile tyres (205/60 x 15 rather than 195/65 x 15), quick ratio steering, "Sportline" badges on the front wing moldings and gear knob, a slightly lowered ride height and a specially tuned suspension including shorter, stiffer springs, struts, anti-roll bars, and bushes
The suspension components of the Sportline package were available as an option on all cars, including estates, as Option 653 - Sports Chassis with 8-Hole light alloy rims

I don't think that the Sportline badges were fitted to pre-facelift cars in the Uk. They were fitted in Australia and the USA though. Don't know about the post-facelift though.

If you want the badges you can get them from your local MB dealer. They don't seem to improve the handling .:D

The 1990 300E-24 sportline I had did have badges and I think they were original.

I am referirng to the coupe. The UK Sportline option at the time was more to do with the handling improvements. The saloon had the interior package which mainly meant the seats, but as you know on the coupe the seats couldn't be changed.

I guess we are back to the old chestnut of what is a sportline coupe?

Pop your VIN into the decoder.

Thanks - just did - but I am still uncertain if my car is a genuine sportline - it certainly does not have the sportline wheels or tyres?

Option 653 with the 8-hole alloys is the Sportline wheel option, as well as the sports chassis too.

I've actually seen this coupe, the pictures don't do it justice. The colour combination is not to my liking either.
But the car is imaculate.
