VIANO
hi guys
I have a Mercedes Viano 2.2 with a 2+1 bench seat in the rear which I take out from time to time, I have done this with no problems dozens of times but last week I put the seat back in and now the back rests will not lift up for some reason. I have spent hours trying to fathom out how they work but I'm stumped, does anyone have any idea how the mechanism works?

Its usually because the seats are not properly locked in to the rails. Try taking the out and refitting.

Hi Marku
yes I've tried that thanks for the response though

after several attempts I decided to use brute force and ignorance and hey presto seat backs are upright again, I think that when I was hoisting the bench back into place I may have caught the backrest release cable and maybe this has tricked the seat into believing it was in the upright position (hope that makes sense) anyway when placing the backrests into the upright position I was coming up against tension and as such I was reluctant to push through but this is indeed what was needed and now the seats are back in situ.
thanks to everyone who has read my post

Sorry to hijack the thread but my question is kind of related!

I just spotted an extra-long Viano for sale with "3-seater comfort bench 2nd row w. folding outer seat"

Is this the same seat as you describe here?

If so is it reversible -- i.e. passenger are travelling backwards!

Finding the whole Viano seating thing very confusing and often the salesmen don't know the slightest thing about the vehicles (like me!)

Thanks.

Yes it is the same but is it the 2nd row that is behind the driver or the third row. If it is the third row why would you want it to face backwards? If it is the 2nd row is the 3rd row also a 3 seat bench which is the normal place for it? If so it is not legal as the Viano only has a maximum of 7 and someone must have swapped the 2 single seats in the 2nd row for the bench. I would avoid the 3 seater bench as the seats are narrow and should you want to remove it they are really heavy. Our last Viano had the bench seat and it was a struggle our current Viano has the 6 individual seats. Much better and more comfortable.
