Can anyone tell me the part number for the damping rod that is at the front of my E300 diesel engine, I believe it is used to remove vibration from the engine? The Russian site doesn't appear to list it and the rubber bushes in the piece appear to have worn out, thus making the car sound a bit Massey Ferguson.

I now have the part, is there any trick to fitting it? I don't have to remove the fan do I?

The lower bolt is a bit of a pig - I removed the whole tensioner assembly when I did mine; by removing the pivot pin, no 17 on the parts picture. The pivot pin needs a 17mm hex tool to remove it.

I just removed the fan shroud and then 4 nuts on the fan blades, then undid the bolt and took the damper out, took about 20 mins, not sure if the 124 is different?

Unfortunately the 124 is different. The radiator had to come out first, to get the fan out in order to access the hex bolt and finally get the bottom nut clear for the damper to be removed. Hey, that's what a decent Merc specialist is for I suppose. If this one breaks down I will put up with the rattling!

The secret with these is to remove the top bolt, put a rubber washer between the top mount & block and replace the bolt

The top mount has a metalastik bush that breaks up and rattles

Lol,I suppose my engine has one cylinders worth of extra room!

hi!! there is enough room even in 300D straight six to get that fan out as long as you have proper tools and you know what to do, without taking the radiator.
