Hi there

i've come across this site and as i'm set on a E55 AMG it seems a good idea to participate. As a newbie the info will be one way to start with but hopefully i will be able to contribute in time.

i have a question that might be of interest to others thinking about a uber saloon!

Anyway i'm going to look at a 2004 E55 on thurs and would like some tips on what to look for?

As reading the past posts it seems anything for these cars is expensive! which i can accept but i don't want to be set up with a major part on the way out!

its black, got 90k, he says its got a FSH, loads of options including the funky seats and keyless start. its also got split rims with new tyres which look really nice.

any advice would be welcome.

Hello Young Man

Welcome to the forums.

I've had a 2003 E55 for about six months now - relatively trouble free.

Look for the usual stuff - FSH with relevant stamps, rust and paintwork condition (check wheel arches and around boot). Should be ok but better safe than sorry.

The brakes can be quite expensive to replace and the car certainly gets through discs and pads if its been driven 'properly'...might be an area you can haggle on if work needs doing.

90k shouldn't be a problem as long as servicing has been regular. Engines are generally bullet proof.

If it is a 2003 then check all the electrical stuff appears to work. Some of the 2003 models are prone to problems with electrics - although mine has been faultless.

Hope this helps.

i had an RX-8 and wish i'd had some advice before! so thought i'd ask some guys who know the cars.

i'm also looking for someone up near Derby who knows the cars to come along to have a look. i'm obviously more than willing to pay for their time.

does anyone know anyone who couold help?

I had a 2003 E55 for a while and had lots and lots of electrical problems. Mainly silly things like the air pumps for the seats + battery issues.

As for brakes I changed the discs and pads all around at main dealer and the charges were very low considering the fact that the E55 is a 100% performance car.

Agree.

When I was looking for my E55 Jay done a report for me on one of the cars I could not view. It was a very thorough report and he pointed out all the issues for me.

Well worth the money and hes someone you can trust.

Thanks for your comments guys

if i go up to have a look at the car i will give Jay a call to see if he can point me in the right direction.

The E55 i was going to view has been sold before i could get up there!! anyone know of any others for sale that are not on autotrader/pistonheads?
cheers

One hours labour plus travelling costs. It will include a diag test with a Star too. I will also check the service book etc.

hi, great choice of car, go to parkers.co.uk for a full list of available options, it will list whats standard on the car so at least you know what is actually an extra.

just make sure all the toys work, more it has the more to go wrong, but i guess if it goes wrong its like not having it(if you get my drift).

brakes worth checking and also when the plugs were last changed, otherwise its a pretty solid car.

took me 6 mnths to find the correct onewith the options i wanted (and some)

good luck
