This was prompted by a phone call from my local dealer last week to say I have a build date of July for the C63 AMG Estate I've ordered with a projected delivery date of September.....even though I've told them I don't want it until one of the leases is up on another vehicle in November...I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I digress.....The dealer wants me to pop in and run through the figures and spec the car for build, and I imagine extract a little more deposit from me.

Well, I've yet to physically see one of these cars never mind test drive one, so I though I'd pop over to Brooklands and have a look, the main reason behind this today is for my partners benefit. She has Multiple Sclerosis, and I really need to make sure she can get in and out of the bucket seats or it's going to be an expensive mistake.

We walked in and were greeted by a friendly lady at the main entrance, I enquired if they had a C63 available to view....she checked and said the track car was available at the back and I could book a drive in it. There was also a car on the top floor with the other AMG's....

We went to the top floor....No C63..apparently it's being PDI'd and won't be there for another week. Very apologetic staff made some more calls, there are two in the dealership downstairs and the track car....

I go to the main desk to book a test drive, complete with my signed order form and deposit receipt, requested a test drive and told I'd have to pay for one of the experiences or get my dealer to call in and book the test drive...nice. But I could take a look at the car ..it was parked outside with the other track cars and currently not being used.

Went outside to take a look at the track car.....no C63, asked one of the drivers, told it was broken down and in for repair, won't be available until tomorrow when it's fully booked and I'll have to come back in a week or so....

Ok, I'll take a look at one of the two in the dealership, No C63 (see the pattern developing here?) Surprised salesman told me that don't have any of those as demos....they use the track car......

All this with my other Half, who walks very slowly with a stick....seriously unimpressed is a huge understatement.

So we went and found a C320 CDi Sport Estate, which OH really liked.....Still, I have no idea if she can get in or out of the AMG, and Mercedes are expecting me to confirm the order whilst still not being able to even provide me a saloon to sit in never mind drive.....

One good thing to come out of this is I picked the colour, Id had my heart set on Tenorite Grey, it looked awful on the estate (but nice on the saloon for some reason) the C320 CDI Sport Estate was in Palladium Silver, and it looked fantastic, not a colour I would ever have picked from the brochure or the website.

Still, pretty unsatisfactory..I came away feeling pretty grumpy about the whole thing considering I'm spending the thick end of £60,000

Sorry to hear of your day at MB world, hardly inspiring.

Did not anyone surgest that they could bring one around to your place for a demo.

Not as yet....C63's appear to be a bit thin on the ground, and particularly with AMG's the feeling I'm getting is they want an irrevocable order and deposit before you're allowed one. Other lower models seem less restrictive.

Whilst I do understand the need to protect against free rolling joyriders, I am an existing customer who has paid a non returnable deposit.

Not the best level of service, quite aside from the fact of the money you are spending and the need to actually test the seating arrangements

I had a guy in Ted Baker (clearance shop) almost fall over himself trying to help and chased down a suit (£250 on sale) from the other end of England! I would expect a little bit more from MB

I've visited twice, both times the service has been bad.

First time I had paid about £100 (can't remember exact amount) for a driving experience, turned up early and was invited to buy myself a cup of coffee while I waited. Thoght they could run to a free coffee. Experience started late.

Second visit to, potentially, buy a car. Booked time with salesman but kept waiting because reception couldn't find the sales rep. Judging by his aroma he'd gone outside for a smoke. Couldn't find demo car. Had to sign saying I'd be respoinsible for first £x of damage if involved in accident during demo.

Cosmetically quite impressive, but sub standard service.

Cost them though, bought my car elsewhere.

Not very good service it seems....and a bit of bad luck to boot....:(

I work for MB albeit in the commercial vehicle industry but part of my job is quoting for service contracts on new passenger cars (Mercs and Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge/Smart).

I often speak to the guys down at MB Brooklands....seem a nice bunch of lads.
Shame you aren't near Milton Keynes. We had a 63 AMG in our hub building at Tongwell offices a few weeks back.
I believe the training centre have one in the workshop too.

I notice you have a Vito. Is it on Contract Hire or Op lease at all?

Steve

If you get the right Bloke in the service dept at Brooklands the service is First class. Very old school.....

Whaow! That's a brave admission to make here in light of recent, erm, changes to Service Plus etc...

Lol......I know...I fully sympathise with our customers though :(....customers buying from MB Direct can't have a Service Plan so the only real option is to try and bargain with the Sales guys and see if they can get a discount on servicing costs or something to that effect.

The new Care and Total Care packages are only available on cars 0-3 months old (New cars).
However, they will be reviewing this again in the future and hopefully they will accomodate used cars again.

If people wish, they can PM me their details and I can possibly advise as to when/if 'Used' cars will be taken on again.

LOL :D

You'll go far!

Yes the Vito is Contract Hire directly with MB, it's actually that I'm replacing..I've pottered around in that since new, but as the business has grown we use Haulers now and actually have no use for a van at all, so I'm replacing that with the new estate.
