Vista problems

Aparently the Dixons group are in trouble over vista with many many returns and computers they can shift because they are rtunning Vista.

When I was told PCWorld retail section only does vista, we went next door into Dixons to get an xp machine.
They said they don't sell them any more.
Back to PCWorld and then I had to open up an account in the business section to be able to get one:confused:

advent = $h1t.

trust me i had to sell them for 2 years whilst working for pc world but i had to say they were good lol.

rule of thumb if its not HP, Compaq, Toshiba, ibm

then dont waste the money lol

The one I'm getting is a Levono, which apparently is part of IBM:confused:
Just looked at a review of it and it looks good.
It even has a fingerprint reader on it:D

No, its not part of IBM.

Lenovo bought IBM's computer arm. They now make all the laptops in China and some PC's in Eastern Europe somewhere.

So you've spent your money on some cheap Chinese rubbish.

Just kidding, Lenovo's are still very good, just not as good as they were when they were built by IBM. Make sure you get a good support package though as were seeing loads of problems with the T60/T61 models. No trends really, just quality control issues.

Oh, about the finger print reader.... your laptop will be covered in your fingerprints. You can easily lift a print, photocopy it and run the copy of the fingerprint over the scanner and it'll work. Not very secure at all IMO. It also screws with MSGina.dll which is needed for certain VPN solutions. Steer clear from them is the best advice.

Pain in the jacksey.
If all you do is surf and use office products you'll probably like it though!
step outside the walled fence and things start to go pear shaped.

vista

before you buy the new kit check that it is on the compatibilty list for vista. As a general rule if you install the hardware if vista likes it it will see it and load generic drivers for it automatically.

New laptop arrived early this morning and I've just spent a couple of hours setting it up and activating the programs I want.
Is slightly smaller than the one I returned, but can live with that.

Regarding the IBM issue, when I went into my 'computer', 'view system information', it comes up 'manufactured and supported by' Lenovo (IBM);)

It is supported by IBM Global services... Manufactured by Lenovo. (In China)

Grav, I've had a couple of the Lenovo machines - been really happy with them. Nice replacement! Obviously Spike's seen more of them than me, but I haven't heard many people complaining about them around the workplaces that I frequent.

I think you will find that the majority of laptops no matter the make are assembled in China / SE Asia.

I have a Samsung X11 running Vista Home Premium and love it.
