W107 - Heater control problems

Hi, my 1982 W107 has the sliding heater controls. The right hand side has now decided not to slide completely down to the bottom (cold setting) and seems to 'bounce' back up. Has anyone any idea why this is?

Could be a faulty or partially blocked hot water valve for the heater, so although you are closing at the dash it's not closing at the valve, so therefore springing back.
Or, it could be that the cable is in need of adjustment, which is what I would check after you are sure the heater is switching off completely.

Cheers.

Thanks Mangoman, the heater is still chucking it out on the drivers side so it sounds like the valve. Is it easy to get too?

Thanks Mangoman for the diagrams. Anyone else know how to find and replace the heater valve?

It wont be the valve which is vacuum operated (it's the black plastic thing on the engine bulkhead rear right). The up/down levers pull straight out with a gentle tug, they're only held by a detent spring. Best done with them in the half-way up position for easier seen re-entry. Just make sure that the lever hasn't been pushed in too far cos this will restrict its lower movement. If this doesn't fix it come back and I'll explain how to access the rear.
