Morning Hairy. I know exactly what you mean about the bulkhead. We’re dealing with a hole underneath the battery tray that after a bit of poking I can almost fit my head through! Not sure if you can pictures. I’ll try and add some here.

Not sure if you can see these.

It sounds like Hairy is welding faster than me. I still haven’t finished finding rust yet. Rear suspension off next. Another can of worms. 😩

Welding literally all complete now. A hole new source of steel was required. Just now repairing the two original wings from parts from two other original wings, fitting the new suspension and she's ready for the respray.

There was an awful lot more rust that I have bargained for, but in for a penny and alll that. Should be good for a few more years after some dinitrol....

I put it up on a ramp and just beat the shit out of it. I had a river coming in when it rained, so knew there were holes, but like you say, well hidden. Ended up doing a lot fo welding, but I think it's now completely ok. Rear wings were done a few years back ansd I am getting her dinitroled once the respray has been done

I’ve now got the rear suspension off to deal with some smaller bits around that rear area. Did your front wings turn out alright? Would be nice to see if your pictures look exactly like mine.

Just got the bottom part of the other wing to do then it's to the shop it goes!

The rear was repaired about 4 years ago, with both rear panels replaced, so that's good.

So the whole suspension, braking and steering system has now been replaced. Going to be a good car for a few years before I probably fit an electric motor to her. Engine still feels sweet.

Some more pics, got a couple more too.

I’ve rust that was so hidden by Mercs sealer the MoT inspector was even missing it.
I think the trouble is the Merc underseal is so thick it hides it all. I literally had to take a stick to it, to find the rust; hit it over and over again listening for the sound of bad metal. I think, finally, we've got rid of it all.

Excellent pictures. One bit I nearly missed was inside the box section under the front of the front seats. There was sealer and sound proofing but no metal left. Now I know when someone asks about wet carpets and steamy windows. Looking like paint isn’t far away.

Checking your pictures makes me think I haven’t been under the radiator yet. More bits to come off.

I think it might be, if it hasn't been done; I was very surprised how rotten it was, like how the hell did the rad stay in place surprised.

I didn't even notice it until we got it on a ramp and started digging around.

Noticed a small oil leak too, but liuckily it was rocker cover and not sump, as I think that's an engine out jobby

One last job and she's in for a respray. Just in time for late Spring I hope.

Small jobs in the interior, but that can wait; I'm moving house soon!

Ok, in the strip down of the coupe ready for spraying we uncovered what I hope is the last of it (the rust); taking the sunroof out we took the rrear screen out and uncovered nasties. Quickly welded up now so ready for prep and paint! Should be completed withhin 2 weeks, then we'll put her back together again!

Boy am I looking forward to the final result ! You deserve a knighthood.

Great work Paul. Have you done anything with window seals? I still haven't gone back to mine, been building garage and fixing the Pug all winter

Thanks. No, thought they're not damaged, just ugly, so they can wait until I've done the interior. New seals on the sunroof will be done, rear window seals look fine. Luckily the rust wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, so a relatively quick fix. Just want the summer in her before I start anymore jobs. I thought this would be a 3 month job, and it's been 7! Anyway, spoke to the painter yesterday and he reckons he'll have her ready for paint next week. So maybe by May she'll be on the road again!
