W123 fan clutch? overheating

Listed as automatic switch A 0065451424 at £25-38 plus vat at Inchcape. Best to check with your MB dealer with your chassis no.

Glad you diagnosed it - that is the electromagnetic coupling - different from my cars .

I've replaced the switch. The problem is solved! The switch kicks in at just over 100C. The fan now keeps the engine between 90 and 100C when stationary. Thanks guys!

Had a look at this picture, can someone tell me what no3 is on this picture, still haven't managed to find out what it is.

I pulled the switch (position number 2). there's 2 cables in there, I've shorted it and the fan does not clutch. Someone mentioned they grounded this. How did you do this? as you have 2 cables?

Hope someone can help. oh btw i checked the fuse and replaced them all, so that rules that out.

Try unpluging the connection on the temperature switch and stick a wire in there and put it on the block,the ignition needs to be on position 2 you will see the clutch engage
