Hello
im slowly doing olive a 1983 230E saloon up as time money and health permit, so far I’ve replaced 80% of front suspension and steering and am now concentrating my efforts on the rear..
Searched many forums and now have a good idea of what I need to do!.. Bushes bearings etc.
Im confident about doing the jobs but need the car to be off road as little as possible.
I have been breaking a 1985 W123 280TE estate for donor parts and it would be an advantage if the rear axle ie: semi trailing arms and axle carrier are swappable with the saloon, this will allow me to build a complete axle and simply swap new for old.
I will check part numbers on both cars but the estate is on its belly on grass at the moment.
So my questions:
1. are axle parts swappable?
2. Is there any advantage to fitting the 2.8 diff to lower engine revs? I know the speedo will be out but gearbox speedo drive or speedo may rectify this if not theres always tipex!..
Thanks in advance
Terry
