Hi all,
I'm wondering what my options are for wheels on my W124 260E.
I'm really not bothered about the look of them and I certainly don't want any bling bling aftermarket alloys, but I do want a larger wheel size/lower tyre profile cos a 65 profile is like riding on jelly compared to what I'm used to. Also maybe something slightly wider so I could get 205-225 tyres on would be a bonus.
Is there an obvious choice of wheel off another merc I can fit?
Even steels would be an improvement if they were the right size.........
thanks,
James :)

James, has yours got 15" wheels on it at the mo ?

Just seen these on ebay - theyare 124 style wheels, but 16 inch ones, this would enable you to lower the profile slightly. I would think that you could probably get 205's or maybe 215's on them but not 100% sure.

Perhaps another member might be able to help with some technical know how !

You might be able to pick these up fairly cheap cos everyone on ebay nowdays seems to want 'bling' wheels. These would keep your car looking fairly standard if thats what your're after .

cheers

cheers H,
that looks pretty much like what I'm after :)
they're basically the ones I have already, but slightly larger. Have to wait and see how much they go for.........
ta,
James

ahhh, the guy's just updated the auction to say that they are infact the 15" ones I already have on... ahh well.
Any other suggestions for 16" wheels wider than 6.5J?
thanks :)

I think the e500's have 16" wheels, they are of the same design as the early s class (not sure of shape number ) .

The e500's did have slightly flared arches tho, but still , i have a w124 shape coupe and i have 17" wheels with 225 profile tyres on them, so 16"s should still be feasable for yours mate.

or have a look in the gallery at my car, they are 17"s with 40 profiles on them, they pop up on ebay sometimes, but you gotta be quick when they do !! ;)

good luck

I recently bought a set of 7.5jx16 et41 Deneb 8 hole alloys from a member on this forum. The tyres fitted are 225x55/16 and fit under the arches without any problems.

I felt the same as yourself about 65 profile tyres - a bit wobbly, not firm enough. Wheels look like this. they come up on ebay from time to time, becareful not to get the ones off a SL though, the offset will be wrong.

See siggy pic. These are 16 inch wheels 225/50/16 ET40. No probs on fitting.

cheers guys, that's given me some more to go on, I'll an eye on ebay over the next few weeks and see if I can find some at the right price :)

well being as I've managed to upset Mr Walker, I'll do the same to Kinky - those rims on my car cost me £40 for the set in great condition and
with 2 decent tyres - isn't it great when you hit lucky on eBay?

After some experimenting the best tyre setup I've found with these rims is 225/50/16 on the rear and 205/55/16 on the front - the 225s on the front are OK but the 205s make the car feel a little "tighter"

He he I did that too, beat him (Kinky) on Ebay for my alloys. Andy you dont upset me, well not much anyway

4 Genuine MB 8 hole alloys. They are generally in excellent condition.
2 have very minor scratching round the edges. The other 2 are pretty much unmarked.
All have Pirelli P6000 225/55 ZR16 95W tyres which have all done approx 17K miles and therefore are fairly well used (but still have a few thou miles in them if driven sensibly!!).

Do these interest you Driftworks James ?

hi Nick,
definitely interested, but really depends on how easily I can get them (I'm in Birmingham) and how much you'd be after for them :)
cheers,
James

That makes three of us then, I snapped up Pietre's original 8 hole alloys and tyres that Kinky was interested in. :)

Should we chip in and buy him a bottle of whiskey so he can drown his sorrows?

Driftwork - I've pm'd you
