W124 E220 wiring harness

I was thinking maybe someone's scrapping their car or parting it and it has an aftermarket harness fitted. As unlikely as it is, someone one day may! After all, the aftermarket ones aren't degradable, or are they?

And I have no plans to get rid of the car as it is what it is, a very comfortable car that drives very well aside from concerning sounds and a bad harness. It feels smooth and responsive so if spend no money getting anything fixed it will probably still drive like this in a few months time. So I see no reason to scrap it.

Plus the one at pistonheads needs rust work and paint work to be done and I don't like the bodykit or the wheels, but thanks for looking round anyway, I can see how cheap they are and know I was completely ripped off but, hey, that's life!

What I meant was replacement looms, bought from MB to replace degraded ones...

Stick with what you have, non intended to anyone else.

Put a little aside when you can and get a new one. Then bimble down to Olly and get it sorted. The car will give you years of good service after this.

My 220TE used to rev quite high at traffic lights and it was a bit un nerving taking up the drive again. It took months to progress to this stage so time maybe on your side. Once the car was on the move it was fine.

Looks like it will have to be a new one. Is £500 the lowest I will find one for anywhere?

The only way to properly know is to give your full VIN to dealer parts dept and get a quote.

copper prices keep rising so I guess Merc adjust their prices accordingly.

You may be pleasantly surprised because much less copper in 4 pot loom than 6 pot.

Hi , Mine has got the same problem, just a minor miss at the moment, possibly
coil wires. I haven't done a fault code test yet, but I have stopped driving it anyway.
$1300 AUD for updated loom is better than possible burnt out ECU.
In Aus this model is pretty rare. It would be good to get one out of the UK (RHD),
but risky as the part number needs to be correct. Any suggestions chaps?

Hi all,
I worked at MBAU for 10 years (we have RHD cars like UK) and it was a common problem on many models for a few years, especialy the cars with higher under bonnet temperatures. There is an after market company called Delphi that makes new engine looms that dont crack. You need to get the part number from the original loom. I have a 1994 e220 W124022 and found a good one at a wreakers, the part number on it is M124 543 3533. I have seen some of them on ebay. I hope this helps, Good luck.
Regards taleff
