W124 Electric seat motors

Hi folks,
I need some advice - I'm having a problem with an electric seat motor on my '89 w124 300e. I've Just bought the car and first time the seat went down and refused to go back up. You can feel the motor engaging/ int light dimming so I ruled out the switch. I stripped the gear housings out and everything seemed to be working normally.

It's as if the motor is trying to move but getting stuck. Could it be a broken drive cable? Seat is now all the way down and I'm having a nightmare removing the seat base for access. All other seat functions including orthopedic settings work perfectly. Any advice would be immensely appreciated!

Some times when I move my drivers seat all the way back the seat belt clip jams between the seat and console and stops the seat moving forward, could be you have a variation on that. Just needs holding out of the way while moving the seat.
