w124 indicator stalk with cruise

Hi

Nats intermittent wash wipe has been playing up and now the indicator is on the fritz (she is out in it as I type).

Before I go buying a new part/sourcing a second hand one is there something I should be looking at internally that might be a simple fault??

Hi,

You can try taking the stalk apart and cleaning the contacts i did this and fixed my intermittent wiper. The end cap comes off and you can clean the contacts, when reomving the end cap make sure not to lose the spring inside.

The end cap should pull off with a bit of effort, you can try levering it off with a flat screwdriver, once off clean the contacts with an alchol based cleaner i used Isoclean, oh i forgot to mention in my first post as well as the spring do not lose the little metal contact pole. once all the contacts are clean you just snap the cap back on.

OK. so i need a torx allen key to remove the airbag - anyone know what size it is? 25, 27, 30?

i can check for you once i get home, but why are you removing the airbag? are you going to replace the stalk???

Its a T25 - had bag off to look at horn contacts and generally clean up 14 years of accumulated dust, hair, skin, etc!

Edit - should have added that the intermittent works fine now I have had the end cap off. Its no longer leaving the wiper arm "parked" in random locations. Lets see if thats the end of it. The indicators playing up was a (to date anyway!) a one off and not repeated event
