300TE - After driving around for about half an hour this morning, I stopped at the local shops and saw a trace of fine 'smoke' appear from the underside of the car at mid-section below the doors......bent down and discovered that it was from the traces of leaking oil which had blown onto the exhaust pipe. The oil appears to be dripping from the auto gearbox (towards rear side of pan). Any ideas where the actual leak could be......pan gasket or some other place? Car is otherwise driving fine........

I think you need to get the car on a ramp and do an inspection to establish where it is coming from.

Could be from anywhere.

hmmm. Sound like the leak we had.

Look above the torque convertor and see whether oil is coming from the CHG between No 5 and 6 cylinders (nearest the bulkhead) and dripping down and blowing backwards. Ours was and it smells awful on the hot exhaust as it burns.

These usually leak from the seal between the output shaft and the torque converter, or from the oil pump.

I've got a spare gearbox from a 300TE but don't have the car any more, so if you come and collect it from Notts you can have it for the price of a cople of beers!
