Just spent a wonderful sunday replacing the rear shocks on my 300se, was told it was going to be easy, shouldn`t take more than an hour says my friendly mot tester, yeah right!!, had to take the rear seats out to get at the top mounts, these came undone with no trouble at all, then got the car up in the air to tackle the bottoms, this is where the fun began, bear in mind I do not have the luxury of a ramp!! so was done grovelling on the floor of my drive, the bottom mountings had to have copious amounts of wd40 sprayed at them, before they would even move.

It turns out that these were the the factory originals, and , had been on the car all its life (19 years) whoever had tightened them at the factory had cross threaded the bolts, so as they came out the thread was stripped!! so I had to make up 4 new bolts to get them back in and retap the threads on the mountings to match.11 hours later the job was finished, and I was very tempted to reach for the petrol and matches!!.

So, if anyone tells you something is easy on an old mercedes hit them with a large blunt instrument!!:wallbash::wallbash:

You must have been unlucky - when I changed the rear springs on mine ( with the car on axle stands ) , it took me no more than a couple of hours , including removing back seat and shocks .

I just put the old shocks back in as I want to convert to self levelling .
