Hello to one and all.

I've been plodding around in my 1998 S500 after I recently purchased her - which is great.

Just one thing. The stereo is frankly a disgrace. It has an awful Kenwood head unit and changer which I will replace ASAP but I have a couple of questions.

Is there a separate Amp in the car and if so where is it located?

Also what are the speaker make and what sizes are they? I'll probably want to replace those too but don't want to have to strip the car apart just to get dimensions. Any crossovers in the car or are they integral in the standard speakers?

One last one :D There seem to be 4 on the rear shelf, 2 in the rear doors, four in the front doors - are there 2 more in the dash in the corners (tweeters?) or is that something else?

So many questions!

Thanks

I've replaced the head unit with a Pioneer DEH-P4900IB which is lovely!!
Full iPod control also which is a bonus.
I'm happy to say that the standard speakers are up to the job and I doubt that I will replace them.
Transforms my motoring pleasure.

good choice there pioneer models have a great internal mosfet amp making them sound real great, to get the most out of that unit make shure uve set things like loud on high and SLA + 4 and best to set the custom preset to a good setting often super bass for me....lol

I'll have a play with the settings as you've suggested.
The bass is quite smooth and the whole effect is very pleasing. So much better than the old unit
