It'll be worth a look. When I open the bonnet though it just scares me to go tinkering around with what lurks in there.
My mechanics knowhow ran out with the Mark5 Cortina, I'll let my local friendly independant do his stuff.

Yes, I agree. I've tried to get hold of back copies of Mercedes Enthusiast that feature the W140, guess what, no longer available 
My fundamental mechanical understanding is sound, it's just everything is controlled electronically, not only that, but if I break a stud off or such like it's so much more expensive to put right.
As you say, good excuse to look at pickies
( and it beats cutting the grass!!)
