Hello,

I'm just upgrading the headunit in my W163 to a Alpine double din unit.

On very low volumes there is a 'hiss/buzz' of interference, however not of the engine note. The noise is present engine running or not.

There was no noise at low volumes with the original unit.

I've checked the wiring loom and the earth connection.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Do you have a phone plugged in/charging while you get the interference?

I didn't have anything plugged into the headunit, just using a CD and radio.

Going to try using a earth from stereo body to the car chassis to see if that improves the noise?

I found the power feed to the stock headunit to be noisy. I tapped into it to add a multimedia adapter from a DVD player/playstation and found while watching a DVD there was terrible engine related whining.

Its many years now but I think i ran a fresh earth wire from chassis and put a ferrite choke in.

I think the MB Comand head unit has some kind of filtering built in

Thanks plexus.

I double checked all the wiring this evening but couldn't improve the noise.

Is is worth trying a interference supressor, was trying to avoid this?

I installed a suppressor and used a separate earth which seems to have stopped the buzz noise.

Took a couple of hours to install, was taking my time but it's an easy process for anyone thinking of upgrading.
