As mentioned in another post, recently purchased a 59 reg A180CDI Classic automatic. It definitely has auto lights, and would appear to have a rain senor on the windscreen but switching wipers onto 1 simply activate the intermittent wipes regards of the amount of rain or lack of rain.

Can anyone confirm if the W169 face-lift Classic comes with Rain Sensing Wipers as standard? If so how should I go about to diagnose this?

Thanks.

Has your front windscreen ever been replaced?

No, I don't think the screen have been replaced for a couple of reasons:-

1. It is a Mercedes Screen
2. It has some light pitting on the screen

Of course this is not conclusive evidence that the screen has never been replaced.

Take it for calibration with someone who has a Xentry machine. Where in London are you?

I am based in Croydon, but frequently up in Leeds with the car.

Richard is correct - after discussing the part numbers with MB dealership Inchscape, it transpired that what is fitted to my W169 is indeed a light sensor (A1718205526) and what I needed is a full rain sensor and light sensor part (A1718205426).

Having replaced the light sensor with the rain sensor part (easy to do as they are physically identical), I found the adaptation of the rain sensor to be fairly easy. However, coding it with Star was tricky and was the hardest part. Finally got it all working after some trail and error with the coding.

Waiting for some rain to come along to test if more fully.
