Hi all.
Just bought a W169 A170 and have my first problem!
In the front central arm rest there's a slide out drawer. The problem is, my sister has just lost her debit card down the back of it, muppet, so I need to find a way of dismantling it so that I can retrieve her card.
I can't see an obvious way to do this and the slidey drawer doesn't appear to be removable.
Can anyone tell me, in simple terms, how to get into this please.
Many thanks in advance,

Slime.

I’ve had some of this apart before on my W169 - I ran a USB cable from that draw right up to the glove box under the plastic trim.

Maybe try working from the back of the car…I can’t remember if I ever managed to get the centre arm rest completely removed but I know you can gain some access through the back by removing the rear ash tray/lighter unit – I think I also managed to remove the plastic trim at the rear of the centre unit with a bit of carefully applied brute force and leverage (or ignorance even)…if you look carefully you can see where it’s joined between the front seats. Take care if you’re gonna try forcing it, use some kind of plastic leverage rather than a screwdriver to avoid scratching.

Hopefully I’ve got a workshop manual coming in the post sometime this week, if your still having trouble maybe I can look in up for you…

I do remember it was a bit tight for space inside that area though…it might just be easier to report the card lost and get the bank to send a new one!

Edit:...
Sorry to appear so vague, it was a while ago that I was messing around with this…as an afterthought maybe check for any screws that might be holding that rear housing in place before you start levering!...I’m certain that the ashtray will just lever out though!

If you could post some info from the w/shop manual that'd be fantastic.

Many thanks,

I have a link for you but I think I need to send it to you via private message - you seem to have that feature disabled on your profile.

I can't use the PM facility until I've made 30 posts.
Could you post the link in this thread and see whether or not it works?
Many thanks,

It's a link to another forum...I'm not sure what the rules are regards posting links to 'rival' forums...probably not the done thing...However I noticed that the info I wanted to pass on to you says 'From another forum' so it may well have come from here in the first place! :) ...read below, I thought it might be useful to you...I'm still waiting for my workshop manuals by the way....

'From another forum:

Pull the armrest forwards so you can see the small coin tray to the rear. Using a penknife or small chisel screwdriver lever out the rubber insert for the coin tray, once removed you will see a torx screw head. Remove this and a section of the armrest can be removed and this reveals torx screws for the back. You may also need to remove the 12v socket, but this simply unclips.'

Good luck

Paul

Thanks mate.
I may be having a go at the weekend!
I'll let you know what happens.
