w201 gear selector bulb replacement?

Anyone know how to get at it in a W201?

I've done similar on a W124 but am unsure how to get at it on this car.

If I recall correctly, lift out the wood surround and the bulb holder should pull out from the top right of the selector housing.

There's no screw holding the wood surround then?

Nope no screws, just clips. The best way is to remove a window switch and pull it up from there.

As said, no screws on the wood surround.

Just remove the plastic rectangular trim around the gearshifter and the whole panel will lift up.

Be careful not to flex the wood or you'll crack the (fragile) lacquer.

Bulb pulls out on the holder with wiring attached - push in the side near the top.
