So I need to replace my aerial (again...) I called up my local dealership, the parts desk of which is usually manned by an elderly Sikh who is VERY friendly and helpful - but most of all he knows his stuff!

Instead I got a moderately helpful chap who seemed a bit lost. I explained that I didn't have the part number, but if I gave him my chassis number if he could identify the part. He put me on hold and after a minute or so said he could... (and even after this he asked if the part was made by mercedes??)

Eventually, I got quoted £50-something + VAT for the mast... This seems strangely expensive, I seem to remember paying £20-odd last time... I thanked him and told him I'd have to think about it.

Do W202s have more than one mast, or is it one-type-fits-all? If so, does anyone have a part number? (or even better, an online supplier?) Ideally OEM... but I don't think I'm willing to pay £50 for a set of straws stuck into one another!

TIA,
Michele

You need the Hirscham H11 mast for the W202 pre facelift and as I recall is around £20.

After looking at this advert:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GENUINE-Merce...7781545QQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116
I went out and had a look at the car's antenna... it IS mushroom shaped and does indeed have a "h11" stylized on the top...

You don't happen to know the part number, do you? I had a look on http://www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk, but I can't seem to find anything coherent... (the part number the ebay seller lists is for a MAS sensor)

This is a Hirschmann AUTA 6000 KE-F 474, if yours is the same as this then the ebay one is the correct one.
I think the mast would be much the same price at the dealers.
Sorry don’t have a part number for the mast but the part number on the aerial, pictured, is 202 820 21 75

The ebay one is £25.00 with p&p, I'm pretty sure I didn't pay that much to my local parts bod. They usually have them in stock.

Same... I know it's only £6 or £7 difference, but I also like having the MB receipt to add to my (fairly large) portfolio of receipts for the car!

I might just buy an EPC disk on eBay and have a look at the part-number, those disks can always come in handy in future....

Dec: My motor works... at least, it sounds like it's trying... I think it's just the mast that is jammed...

So I bought the mast on eBay...

I had a look on the EPC... I get 4 part numbers:
A 202 827 0401 Telescopic Antenna
A 202 827 0054 Tube (antenna)
A 000 540 1608 Adapter Cable
N 0000 0000 1933 Screw

Next, I did a lookup for those part on Inchcape....
A 202 827 0401 Telescopic Ante £56.58
A 202 827 0054 Tube £22.84
N 0000 0000 1933 Screw £0.37
A 000 540 1608 Cable Harness £26.12

Now... I have the EPC on another machine, but looking at the exploded diagram, it would appear that I need part '85' of the diagram (the £56 part) as that looks like the mast. The only other think which is similar is part '86' (A 202 827 0054 Tube £22.84) which looks like the base of the mast - but I doubt this is the part I need...

Hence, for once, eBay seems to be cheaper for an OEM part than the dealer!

Well they must have shot up in price, I'm forever popping into the MB parts dept for a new mast, always less than £25.....
