I've had better evenings! Gave my 1998 C180 away to my brother in law a few weeks ago as I fancied a change. Got a call last night to say the autobox was making 'noises' and the gearchange was a bit jerky. I said no problem, probably just due a transmission fluid change. Drained the fluid and took the sump pan off tonight and there must be 20 or 30 roller bearings in there, NOT a good sign 
Am I right in thinking I would be wasting my time even opening up an automatic transmission? Anyone overhauled their own? How much should he expect to pay for a 2nd hand replacement from a breaker? And finally, if anyone near Newcastle upon Tyne has one for sale (5 speed) i'm sure he'd be interested.
