The boot lid on my W202 slams down with a mighty force and is a possible neck breaker, it's obvious that the something has gone. When I press the button on the key-fob the boot lid opens but won't spring up anymore.

What is the problem and is it an easy fix for a man with some spanners and some patience.

Springs, #23 in link below, one or both broken or the hole that the are anchored to is broken, I think welding can solve the problem depending on what is broken.

hi, last year i had the same issue, and found that a piece of metal that the spring hooks into snapped. I managed to pull the spring and use one of the other holes (there are about 3 others that you could put into). However after this happened the boot does not automatically rise up when unlocking with the key.

last week the other side went too!!! so did the same thing again, but have ordered 2 new hinges and going to replace both sides so the boot works as it should.

Take a look HERE

my one pops up fine on the button but i really have to slam it to shut otherwise it just springs back up. whats that about? could it be alignment?

Mine last 202 used to do that to - it was just the lock not latching very well. Just needed some WD40 to loosen it up a bit.

makes sense, needed to do that on my audi!
