Anyone know if there are Brake Pad Sensors fitted to the rear pads on a facelift C240?

The reason I ask is that having quickly removed the rear wheels last night in order to spray a bit of WD40 onto the area where the discs meet the hubs (I'm changing the discs as well as the pads later today or maybe tomorrow, and the fronts were really difficult to release at this point due to being a very tight fit over the hub), I couldn't for love nor money see any pad wear sensors fitted nor indeed find any wiring to them.
This seems peculiar, as the stealership said I needed 4 (?) and there is half a reference to rear pad sensors in the Haynes bible (although the latter does not specifically cover the C240/C280 V6 models, it refers to pad wear sensors "where fitted"). Certainly there is no facility in the pads themselves to push in a sensor, as there is on each of the inner front pads.

I'm  !

Look forward to any replies.

Regards,

Alex

I braked all the way through my old pads and ended up eating into the discs. No wear sensor. I managed to drive for about 1 year and 10k after I was warned that they were low during an inspection though! ;)

Thanks for the prompt response Shude.

It seems then that rear pad wear sensors are not fitted to the facelift models (if indeed they ever were to the earlier 202's). Another cost-saving exercise by MB one can only assume!

Seems a bit short-sighted though just fitting them to the fronts. Okay, the fronts do 70% of the braking but are significantly larger pads, and as you have found to your cost, the rear discs cost just as much to replace as the fronts once they're shot!

I suppose the MB thinking behind this is that once the front sensors are indicating the pads are low, the chances are that the rears are also on their way out (assuming the vehicle has been under normal load distribution).

Ho Hum - the joys of MB motoring!

I'm pretty sure that my previous 1986 W201 190E never had sensors on the rear wheels either, just up front.

None on mine either

Have you noticed tho,On the front brakes there is an extra hole (blanked off) for an extra sensor?
