Hi all
Just thought I would post my experience to help anybody in the same boat.
Bought a 1998 C180 Esprit Auto Estate 105,000 miles.
When accelerating engine seemed to pulse or surge and seemed hesitant, kickdown also seemed not to work.
Did Oil & Filter change, Air Filter, Plugs and the Italian Tune Up (red line it), no change
Read Forums suspected MAF. Cleaned MAF still the same.
History on car said it had had a new MAF, ECU and CAT. Bills for over £1000.
After more research suspected Lambda Sensor / Oxygen Sensor.
After reading information on these sites http://www.lambdasensor.com and http://www.lambdapower.co.uk I suspected it could be this.
Ordered MAF from Ebay £45 but in the meantime went to Eurocarparts for a replacement Lambda sensor.
Car seemed fine at low speeds, slow excelleration but when trying to accelerate hard and especially when cold it was worse and very occasionally would backfire.
Bought Bosch Universal Sensor LS07 0 258 986 507 - 36Y for £66, yes I know you can get universal ones cheaper but at least its a Bosch and was available from stock.
Fitted from the top of engine bay without taking off heat shields and spliced old cable to new cable with supplied connectors.
Bingo, all seems well. Just waiting for MAF to arrive now so may sell it on when it arrives or keep for spares. Looking forward to see if economy improves but the C180 is still no patch on my old 300TE even though it no seems nipier and more responsive.
Just looking for an armrest for it now.
Simon
