Just got in the car after spending all day yesterday changing the flexible fuel pipes

Whenever it changes gear there is a massive thumping from the back end of the car

Any ideas?

So far this week its had a new exhaust, heater has failed, master cylinder has failed, I've had to renew all the flexible fuel hoses, oh and it needs new tyres and the tracking is out

I'm sure I heard somewhere that Mercedes made reliable cars

Possible maintenance-induced-failure?

If the gearbox had the problem you described, previous to the maintenance work, you might consider checking ATF level. If the level is OK, you might need to have a transmission specialist check the unit before it fails and costs you really big bucks.

But if the symptoms suddenly appeared after maintenance, such as the new exhaust change, then you might consider inspection of the transmission for detached wires or vacuum hoses dislodged during the work carried out.

Good luck!

pretty sure its not the exhaust, car ran ok after it had been fitted, and its a proper bang, the whole car shakes

Have you connected all the rubber vacuum pipes back to the inlet manifold?

Is it a turbo?

If non turbo check the vacuum connections to the white nylon pipe which is on the right (standing in front) of the block going to the tranny -

Check any junctions leading into this plus pipes going into the manifold as they lose vacuum even if not related.

last place is the main vacuum supply off the vacuum pump at the front.

yes its non turbo

I'll have a look around and see if I can see anything

thanks for the help

found what's wrong

the white nylon pipe has come out of the gearbox end, only problem now is trying to get to it to reconnect it!
