w202 c280 sport 1998

An amg car is not just one with amg engine. amg upgrades more the engine on a standard car depending on original owners requests so he could order upgrades excluding engine on any car

There is a size difference between c36 and c43 discs, neither of which will fit your car. Post the vin number and Olly may be able to help you.

An AMG has an AMG engine.

No AMG engine. No AMG.

We can prove it for you. Either way.
It starts with WDB202***********

This is meant to be an enthusiast site. I dont appreciate comments that anything below c36 is a lesser model thats not being helpful. I started this thread asking two simple questions to have people jump on band wagon saying its not amg blah blah blah. Ino its not amg My car is a c280 sport with amg look extras ticked and on earlier threads I asked for help in identifing the car as its clearly not just a c280 sport. Amgeed got the data card and since then I got one from mb with a few more codes on it. When I spoke with mb they said it had 'amg undercarriage' and had amg extras 'from arches down' and it came out of the factory as it is. They didn't elaborate what was included in that statement but ordered the correct springs for the car which they said there was only two in the country. As an earlier poster said because of options available there was cars that had almost one off setups. When you compare my c280 sport to others there is clearly a lot of differences. This car hasnt been meddled with since its got a few issues and its a little project. If I could get answers from data card I would but it just as easier to speak to mb if I need to identify parts. There isn't many c280s and not many sports which makes my car pretty unique having the setup it does and I really like the car as is it. The orginal owner wonted a c280 sport with a few amg bits, I personally dont like the two tone c43 interior the seats dont look comfy and if my car did have amg bumpers/skirts they would also being swapped to standard ones, if the original owner ordered the staggered wheels then what would Mercedes have automatically added to it ie the rubber moldings which it has got, i was trying to find out what parts underneath were also upgraded the bits you cant see which arnt on the data card, it has amg door steps rather then standard for instance that isn't on a data card

Mine is a w202 c230 kompressor. On the data card it had 17inch amg monoblocks from factory and had the arches rolled etc at factory to suit wheels. It's also a sport so has sport under carriage which means it's lower. It's not got cross drilled discs nor does it have amg kick plates on the sills. Mines completely original. Also has rubber spax on at arches. Don't always believe what mb dealer says because some don't know a toaster from a kettle. I remember phoning and asking if mine had the lsd which they sad yes and it holds iirc 1.1litres instead of .9 litres of which the standard diff has. Well only got a litre out and 1 in so who knows. It does sound to me as the previous owner may of fitted some upgrades like the kick plates etc.

Door plates are totally original it has them front and back besides were can you get them second hand?? And you say yours is a sport with sport standard door kicks so why is mine not original because it has amg ones

Does it look like this?

Borrowed the pic's from a member here, hope he doesn't mind.

Standard brakes, standard springs, standard engine,

What is the difference between sport and amg or have you lot just got glorified sports suspension

How many times do I have to say it I no its no amg its a sport with some amg bits

It looks like you are enthusiastic about your car and that's great. It's always difficult when cars equipment can be specified by the owner. It make it's very confusing. I don't feel that anyone is being aggressive on here towards you, or unhelpful. We are all enthusiasts and want to help. Looking back, the moment that you called someone a knob, may not have been too helpful! :-) But yes, I understand your frustrations...Mercedes cars are all great. Whatever your data card says will be true and it seems like you have a car with some AMG options. Mine is similar, not AMG, but some options which make it higher spec than some. I have an R129 SL500 that came with rolled arches and AMG 18 inch split rims from the factory. I hope you get the answers you are looking for and keep enjoying the car.

Thanks thats all I'm saying I'm not pretending its something its not it is higher spec then a standard sport

I didn't ask for a lecture on weather its amg or not just if there was a difference in c36 or c43 brakes no one has fiddled with it its from the factory as is I wonted a merc not a amg if I wonted a 36or 43 I would have brought one I brought a c280 sport and since found out its got amg undercarriage and no its not just the wheels as said by mb they wouldn't lie they are the ones who are fitting the parts why would they order the wrong parts. I dont no if it has amg brakes or not that's why I asked the question of difference in break disc size

'Whether' , not 'weather'

'wanted' , not 'wonted'

'bought' , not 'brought'

'it has' , not 'its got'

'I don't know' , not 'I dont no'

'brake' , not 'break'

Its people not willing to accept some standard cars had amg extras

How pathetic keep spell checking give yourself a gold star

How many times do I have to say it I no its no amg its a sport with some amg bits

all C36/C43 had SPORT logo on front fender trim so does your car.
SPORT means car has stiffer suspension, it's a bit lower than other w202's.
perhaps it have rolled front fenders?

you should have the look a like smaller AMG steering wheel bar the thicker upper grip.
interior does it have faux carbon trim?

your upper vertical door trim has faux carbon where the others have something else.

SPORT version have different trim options than Classic and Elegance w202's

Yes, so therefore it has sport brakes:

Front 288mm vented disc, single piston sliding caliper.

Rear 278mm solid disc, 2 pot fixed rear caliper.

End of story.

Did I say mine had amg brakes no I originally asked if there is a difference in c36/43 brakes not look at my car it has c36 or c43 brakes and have you seen or been under my car so your assuming my car is like any other sport which it might or might not be
