Can anyone clarify the differneces between a tiptronic gear surround and non tiptronic gear surround? and is the centre console different?

Hi,
The console I would thought would be the same as there is no reason to change that I can see.
If anything is different it will be the switch panel around the gear shift, but I have always believed that even this is the same and its only the gear shift assemby thats different, and thats the same size as the original shift so you should even be able to use your original trim surround.

Hi andy my tiptronic shifter sits lower than gear trim?

Really that does surprise me, what car did you source the selector from? CLK? E class?
How does it compare to the original size wise? does the original trim surround still fit around the shifter?
If it does,nt fit as its to low it would seem to imply that the 202 tip shifter is different, i have seen tip versions of the 202 there does,nt appear to be any difference hieght, size wise, or the console.
I,ll have a look on the EPC after work for you see if i can see anything that might explain it.

Yes tiptronic shifter from clk 320. The gear trim does go around the shifter might be a bit wider.

When i put both shifters side to side the tip shifter is lower than the orignal one

How much difference in hieght are we talking?
Looking at the EPC it appears that the trim surround is different for the tip A2022670788 (£3.59), and there is no difference in the centre console between the normal and tip, and trim/switch also appears to be the same.

The part no for trim is that for the black trim which goes around the gear selecter?

Its roughly about half an inch may be abit more difference

Yes thats for the trim around the selector.
ONE-TOUCH SHIFT MECHANISM ELETRONIC FIVE-SPEED TRANSMISSION 722.6 GEARSHIFT MECHANISM

To be honest I think you may have to get a specific 202 selector, if the replacement trim surround doesnt solve this hieght issue.
Is there anyway you could swap the bits over from your normal selector to make the tip one to sit higher? just a thought, though this might have an impact on the bits underneath connecting it to the gearbox.

I tried to swap items around but its impossible its totally different
