Hi guys,

Just wandering if anybody could help. Today i had lowering springs fitted to my year 97' W202. There were no problems whatsoever with the front two, however both the rears wouldnt slot in. I think this maybe down to the fact that i didnt have the rubbers for them...?

I just wanted to know that if it is just a matter of having the rubbers, and if so, does anybody know the best place where i can get them..?

Thank you very much,

Regards.

i have genuine w202 amg fitted on mine. i will take a look but you should get the rubber with the springs. This is what mine looks like

i bought them off rajinder_1, however they'd been put in a box ages ago, and unfortunately went misplaced, however i have no problem with that, because these things do happen (just making sure i dont portray a hate against Raj!).

Im hoping Europarts might be able to help.

The rubber caps are not expensive from Mercedes , and come in a range of thicknesses to correct ride height according to the spec of your car - there is a 'points' system that you add up according to what equipment you have and this determines which rubber you require to achieve the correct ride height .

Unfortunately , since you have chosen to lower your car , the formula will no longer work so you'll need to pick at random and hope for the best .

What happend the the pads that were on the car - can't you use those?

If you are saying there were no spring pads installed it must mean someone has already been there and removed them at the rear to lower the car.

If you now put spring pads in, your efforts to lower the car will result in minimal lowering compared to where it is now.

That's pretty hard to imagine - the pads locate the springs in the mounts/perch, without them the springs would move around.

How will the springs move around ?

Once the 1.5 ton car is let down on them, they will likely remain in that position, as there is nothing that moves around except in an upward/downward direction fixed in the one position.

The bottom of the spring is in a fixed position for ever and will not alter.

they are called spring pads, and do not come with the springs, as Olie mentioned above, just use the ones you took off with your old springs.

The diameter of spring is smaller than the perch/mount it slots into (and there is no grove on the top mounting like there is on the bottom) - so they can move. Agreed that with about 350kgs on each corner they will get stuck on one side and not move easily, but you might get some nasty clunks when the suspension is unloaded giving more scope for movement. Also with no rubber in the system I'd imagine there will be a lot of extra vibration/noise trasmitted directly into the bodyshell.

Hi Guys,

to be honest i did not even look for all the bits in the box, I have spoken to Aero, and advised to go to MB to get the spring pads from them and that they will not be that expensive.
If he asks for the esprit spring pad that should be for a lowered car and should be ok, although as mentioned before he should be able to use the old ones of they are there...

Also i would have thought the mechanic should have realised this when fitting the rear springs??? and could have bought some from the dealer or a aftermartket place... instead of removing them and trying to fit the other springs then stating they dont fit??

Raj
