Has anyone upgraded their speakers? If so how easy is it on these? I was going to fit a sub, but then realised that the boot in my esprit model seems sealed?

Removing the speakers from the doors requires removal of the door cards, pretty simple to do, there are instructions on here or in Haynes manual. Take off door card, unscrew and unplug speaker, plug in and fit adapter (if needed) or fit speaker, bolt it up and then refit door card.

Pretty easy - you can get adapters that will enable you to use standard sized speakers.

Watch out though - on my old W202, the speakers that I had going in the front door were a little too deep; so I had to cut the door waterproofing (not an issue as the car was going to the desert a few months later).

Boot sub can work, but you will need to remove the foam from 2 of the 4 holes in the rear parcel shelf. That way, 2 holes have speakers and 2 are essentially ports for the sub. Next, make an enclosure for the sub that puts the actual sub close to the holes, and ensure it's sealed to the boot. It will reduce your boot size, but does work (assuming you don't go for 15" subs and some silly kit :p)

I didn't have to remove the door cards on mine when I fitted the adapter and new speakers.

I did,nt have too remove the door cards either but removing and refitting of the adapters would be easier if the cards were removed.
IIRC with adapters you can fit 6.5" speakers in the front and the rear shelf, on the rear door you can fit 4" or 4.5" speakers (i can,t recall the exact size).

in the rear doors with adapters you can fit 5.25"
