I've been thinking that i wanted to change my springs/shocks for a while now and i might actually get round to doing it in the next few months. But i was wondering (since mine is a classic trim) if i could just ask for the sport trim springs/shocks at the counter and bolt them straight on? or will they just take my chassis no. and hand me over the normally bouncy springs that come with classics.

Also, would there be any difference between the sports suspension and the c43/c36 suspension and if so, can the c36/c43 suspension bolt straight on?

I've had a look at mine recently and the shocks seem like very standard MB ones, but the springs are bright red in colour.. and have "eibach" written on them (which i only spotted on one of them, cuz they other 3 were smeared or slightly erroded... i'm also starting to get really irritating squeeky noises from them, and they seem as if they are quite old, and they dont lower the car by much! I'd prefer to have MB ones if they are better.

Anyone with more knowledge than me about this can have a go at recommending what i should do?

Thanks in advance!

OEM springs are competitively priced but shocks are a bit expensive. Suspension components are matched to trim spec to achieve similar ride height and handling depending on option codes.

IMHO if you're going to replace the springs and shocks with performance and handling in mind then forget about OEM and go for a recommended aftermarket supplier. Eibach/Bilstein and H&R are worth checking out.

It is also possible to lower/raise the ride height using rubber suspension shims or spring perches which are available from the stealership for a few pounds each, these come in a variety of thicknesses depending again on trim spec. You should check these out in combination with your new springs/shocks for fine-tuning of the ride height (most just go for the thinnest ;) ).

The reason i was asking about the sport coil overs is because i've got a friend who has an elegance c320 and he went with the avantgarde (i think?) coil overs and it made a big difference in handling with minimal effect on the ride comfort.

i also have the classic model and the ride is very loose.....

i've lowered the car (new springs :)) and the problem is made a little worse so i need to
upgrade the shocks...... if you can find a good deal on the stiff suspension..

let me know i would be VERY interested....

Cheers

I would reccommend H&R springs all round, you will find they work out a fair bit cheaper than OEM Sport springs and are better.

That's because the roll centre lowered so incites more roll. You definantely require stiffer dampers to compensate.

i know, i know.

But ey it was cheaper just to lower it...
but springs are around $200 AUD that's a little above my budget..

Anyone know of a cheap place in the UK that ships to AUS..

Need new shocks....

Cheers
