This light comes on and off when it feels like it. Sometimes you start the car it stays on. Then sometimes it just goes off. Is this a sensor or a connection somewhere? Car runs absolutely fine otherwise. Just seen another thread being started so i thought i would post this up before i forget.

Could be anything. Unless you have a know set of sequences that cause it (such as sitting on the passenger seat), then the same applies as said in the other post, i.e it could be anything - there are sensors all over the place, wiring, and various lights, and actuators that are all monitored for faults, and will all light the SRS light. So the only way to really know is with Star Diagnosis..

This star diagnosis, does it have to be done by a dealer or can a specialist do this as well? Ive never had this with previous cars so never looked into it this far.

Star Diagnosis is the genuine Mercedes Diagnostic system. A number of independents have genuine Star Diagnosis systems or "clone" versions of Star Diagnosis. A number of independents have similar systems (such as Autlogix) that can also read out the airbag faults. I would guess that anyone advertising themselves as a Mercedes Specialist has access to the diagnostic equipment.
