W202 Transmission 'Thump'

Just returned from work and my c180 Auto has started making a thump when changing up through the gears, more pronounced when changing from 2nd to 3rd, could it be the half shaft(s)?
Thanks for any help/advice, has anyone had this problem and sorted it out themselves?

what year is your 202? If it is a earlier 202 with the early gearbox722.5 could be a vacuum pipe problem.

Have you checked the level and colour of the transmission oil.

Afternoon, my W202 is a N plated '98 model, it has the Red Cap on the transmission filler which according to the Haynes Manual indicates a later model Auto-Box. Unless you know different? This site always seems to have knowledge from enthusiast's that is much more reliable and useable than my manual! Again my thanks!

Possibly a prop shaft problem? Either one of the flexible couplings or the central bearing mounting?

Thanks to all, I'll have to bite the finiancal-bullet and and get it sorted? Seems like I'm getting a few problems all together, but the car belonged to my late Father so it's got a lot of special value to me (and of course it's a Mercedes Benz!).
