Hi guys

After spending ~£800 on Pilot PS3 and WIM action, I found out last night, that with just me and my partner, that the rear tyres rub on road undulations - ie. bumps.

With just me in the car, they only rub on one harsh speed bump and are fine the rest of the time

Just considering what my options are at the moment.

Looking at the delivery/datacard print out, the car was supplied with 'AMG wheels, complete 4 pieces: 7,5x17 ET 225/45'.

The current wheels are 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear - staggered.

The thing is, the previous tyres didn't rub at all, it's just the rim protector catching the arch ever so slightly.

So, should I get some new tyres and sell my tyres wheels on.

Get mine refurbed then sell them on as a package (lots of hassle).

Find some original wheels for the car . . .

Arrgh, headache !

couple of things

1. i found certain makes rubbed on the 18`s i had on my c36, pirelli and goodyear were the best, continentals rubbed the most.

2. your shocks might be knackered hence causing them to rub.

i wouldnt change the wheels they are IMO the best rims for the w202, albeit yours could do wit ha fresh diamond cut.

Thanks for the reply.

The car has Lorinser shocks which I believe to be ok as they have not done that many miles.

Agreed they look awesome and do need some attention - but as I use the car as a daily runner and the car has to be parked in resident parking (which I HATE) I think the refurb money is best spent on other items.

Do you know if the arches on the C43 are different ?

I will consider a change of tyre to Goodyear assymetrics, but I am scared they may still rub !

Now I know Blackboots can supply/refurb/store/leave the car there this is a possible option.

If it really is that slight, perhaps consider rolling the arches slightly. It might well be just a tiny section of "unfinished" metalwork on the arch that is causing the problem.

I would need to remove the arch lip accessorie to do that ? I have a feeling they would never go back on correctly ?

I haven't tried with two people in the back yet ?!

Whitey, try this

on the rear arch there is a pretty big lip which you can tap back using a bit of wood and a mallet, do it gently and not too much, should only need slight bending (this is on the side nearest car door) this is the most common place for the 18`s to rub on the w202.

you did say it was the rear rubbing didnt you?

Being at work, I got the lads to sit in the back and one in the boot.

Turns out it's just catching the bumper - phew.

Talk about being a drama queen, but it catches it actually sounds a lot worse than it appears to be !

Rubbing on the arch liner by the filler pipe.

To eliminate the problem, we cut some of the liner away by the bumper edge and with the help of a heat gun, shaped the liner to give more clearance where it was rubbing.

No more rubbing with two people in the front - hopefully none with two in the back !

Many thanks to Will for the help :bannana:

Yep - it was just catching the plastic innner arch liner which had possibly drooped slightly over the years (it had come away a few mm towards the wheel?).

Never rubbed with the previous Goodyear F1 GSD-3s in identical size (255/35/18)

Pleased it's sorted as this is clearly the best wheel setup for a W202

Glad it is sorted as I was going to say that if the rim protectors were hitting the wheel arches you are in serious trouble :D

im suprised yours rubbed with that! im running 255s on eibach lowering springs and dampers on 19" dont get any rubbing apart from at the front where im running 9.5J 19" with a 225/35/19 bit of a large one lol
