Hi all, I have done some searches and found similar symptoms but not my exact ones.
W202 (2000) 220cdi
Has happened twice previous to this, I have driven off and soon realised the car wont shift up the gears, also the display to show your current gear is backlit but no display of the gear is shown. After switching off until those displays go blank after 20 seconds or so, i then switch on and the car works as normal with the display.
I have just returned now from a few days away so the car has been sitting, cold and wet weather and I have the issue as before, but I have tried switching it on and off a few times but no luck, she just wont come back with the display.
Also each of these times when I put it into D or R it jerks into it insted of being smooth as usual. Gear changes are fine when its working so I dont believe its an oil issue.
Anyone any ideas I could try? I read an interesting one about battery voltage where the box will almost lock out for protection if it detects low voltage during startup though this persons problem didn't state that their display was blank.
Thanks in advance for any help. Ill see if i can borrow a battery tomorrow to rule that out, need to get back on the road quick as its my only means for getting to work.
