I recently removed both headlights so i can have the wings re painted, ive noticed that the auto leveling on the headlights isnt working anyone know why its not working as they was working before i removed them?

I presume that you have checked the connections to the headlamp adjuster at the rear of the headlamps ?....It is the black unit on the back of the headlamps.

Have checked all connections all are in place

Hi,
Did you touch the front or rear O/S suspension?
How much did you disconnect (if any) under the bonnet?
Check fuse number 13 in the front fuse box.
When you removed the headlights did you remove the levelling motors from the headlight or unplug them?

Hi andy i didnt touch either suspension or removed the motor i removed the complete light only thing what i took off was the wiper

Hi,
The levelling motor you unplugged the loom and left it in place in the headlight? (headlight removed from car with levelling motor in place).
What about under the bonnet did you move the Radiator header tank from the inner wing?

I didnt remove the raditor the only other things which i removed from the front was the lights, bumper and the inner plastic bit in the wings

Hi,
Are you sure they were working before you removed the lights?
If you only removed the headlights with the levelling motors still fitted in them, and you haven,t disturbed the suspension sensors or their wiring, and fuse 13 is intact, i would be looking at getting it plugged into STAR, this should be able to interrogate the system and should give an indication where the fault is.
Just a thought, your ABS system is working as it should? as the levelling system requires an input from it and may not work correctly if the ABS system is faulty.

That might be the problem as my srs light is on need to get that sorted. So is that why they are not working?

SRS is the seat belt pretensioners and airbag system, ABS is the system that the levelling ECU takes a feed from.
STAR should be able to interrogate the whole levelling system and this should point to the fault.

I think that will be the best thing to do and check the fuse as i havent done that yet thanks andy for your good advice as always

Hi,
I installed the auto levelling system and xenons to my 43 (did,nt have them from the factory) there was an official MB retro fit for this, i have this series of worksheets which details the installation of the system and may aid you in diagnosing your fault, send me a PM with your e-mail address if you would like me to send them to you.
