Hi all.

Ive been having a problem with my car lately. its been very lumpy at idle.

6 months ago all injectors where cleaned and car was running fine. the lumpiness has returned.

Ive cleaned EGR and changed fuel filter and put new copper seals in the injectors. i also had to clean up some oil from around the back three injectors.

i reinstalled the injectors and the front three stayed clean but the very back injector is bubbling oil. i understand that it may need torqued to seal it properly so that could be causing the bubbling.
My problem is 1. its still has the lumpy idle and 2, where the hell is the oil coming from as the surrounding area is all clean from oil.

car does not seem to be burning oil and there's no blue smoke

Search 'black death'....

tar is coming from cylinder DO NOT TIGHT THE BOLT MORE if done by instruction 7Nm +90 deg + 90deg. You may need refine the sealing surfaces, DIY tools available. I hope you used new bolts too, old ones may snap (stretching bolts!)

That would appear to be a blow by on the injector seal and what you are seeing is a carbon build up. As mersum1es said do not tighten further. The bolt is notorious for shearing. Have the seat cleaned and use Honda washers; better by far, though some have suggested that the difference in thickness could alter the timing. I think not.

Is it a 2000-2003 W203? If so it's an OM611 engine which, as other posters are saying, is notorious for this problem. As far as I understand, the faced areas on the head where the injectors tighten down on, pit over time, and the washers/injectors can no longer make a true 100% seal.

My dad had a W210 with this engine and ended up having to have all 4 injectors faces on the head reamed - this finally fixed the problem once and for all.

Found where the oil leak was coming from - just stripped the rocker down and removed rocker, seems the oil is leaking through the gasket. Im going to fit a new gasket tomorrow and refit injectors. if i still get blow back ill clean the seats again. i will update this post.

Are you saying that you have a rocker cover oil leak at the gasket?. If this oil is being "bubbled up" by blow back from the injector then you have a leaking injector seal. It will not work just to refit the injector; you will have to clean the faces and use a new washer.

Jeff^3, I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your question, but you stand a much better chance of getting one if you start a separate thread about it with a meaningful title :thumb:
