Hello everyone,

Today i just check the oil level on dyno ant it was 7L. (7.1,7.2) On w203 220cdi it should be 6.5Litres oil and i have 0,5L too much. So im woundering is it not dangerous for the motor and can it damage the motor???

Thank you

PS Alex J

It is true that too much oil is not a good thing (and more so on Diesels then Petrol engines).

But how do you measure oil level on a dyno... and how did you work out the capacity in L?

If you have a dipstick, the oil level should not be above the max when the engine is hot (or, when filling up after an oil change, a safe bet is half way between min and max with the engine cold).

If you have electronic oil level checking, you should be able to check the oil level from the instrument cluster menu with the engine switched off, but you might want to invest in a dipstick for more accurate measurement.

In my mercedes its only electronic level checking system :( I was checking it in dyno mode and it was 7L( was checking when engine was hot) but in handbook its says should be 6.5L. So is it dangerous? should i take 0.5L oil of the engine or no?
I used this tutorial:

1. To start, the key must be removed from the ignition.
2. Insert the key and turn to position 1.
3. Press the "Page Down" steering wheel button (lower Right button on the left side) to select any MFD display other than a trip odometer. (Don't do this and you will reset your trip odo).
4. Immediately press and HOLD the trip odometer reset button (left edge of instrument display) until the instrument cluster beeps. There is no visual message, only an audio beep. Turn down the audio system and be patient, this takes around 40 seconds. (Your trip odometer page may return in the MFD, but it will NOT reset to zero if you properly did step 3, so don't worry) After the beep...
5. Press the "Page Down" steering wheel button again.
6. The MFD will show the page x15jq has posted above, except the oil level values will be "dashes".
7. Turn key to position 2 and wait while system measures the oil.

I see.... I don't think the electronic measurements is that accurate.

If in doubt I would buy a dipstick and check it the old fashioned way.

Did you actually get a warning while driving that the oil level was too high and you should remove some oil? And when was the car last serviced and by who?
