Hi guys, i have a few faults with my air con. I started having ticking noises after upgrading the standard air con control fascia to the AAC digital air con control fascia. Here is the fault list that DAS STAR diagnosis gave me:

1) B1390 COMMUNICATION ERROR OF AC BUS WITH COMPONENT A32M2 (ACTIVATED CHARCOAL FILTER FLAP ADJUSTMENT MOTOR)
2) B1598 COMPONENT M2/8 (LEFT DEFROSTER ACTUATOR) IS STIFF OR BLOCKED
3) B13A0 COMMUNICATION ERROR OF AC BUS WITH COMPONENT M2/9 (RIGHT DEFROSTER FLAP ACTUATOR)
4) B15A8 COMPONENT M2/10 (LEFT FOOTWELL FLAP ACTUATOR) IS STIFF OR BLOCKED
5) B13B0 COMMUNICATION ERROR OF AC BUS WITH COMPONENT M2/11 (RIGHT FOOTWELL FLAP ACTUATOR)
6) B13C0 COMMUNICATION ERROR OF AC BUS WITH COMPONENT M2/20 (RIGHT FRESH AIR FLAP ACTUATOR)
7) B15C8 COMPONENT M2/6 (LEFT BLENDING AIR FLAP ACTUATOR) IS STIFF OR BLOCKED
8) B15D0 COMPONENT M2/7 (RIGHT BLENDING AIR FLAP ACTUATOR) IS STIFF OR BLOCKED
9) B1100 NORMALISING OF THE POSITIONING MOTORS IS NOT OK. ONE OR SEVERAL POSITIONING MOTORS ARE FAULTY, OR NORMALIZING HAS NOT BEEN CARRIED OUT
10) B1340 COMMUNICATION ERROR OF AC BUS WITH COMPONENT B32/2 (AAC SUN SENSOR (4 IN TOTAL))
11) B1350 COMMUNICATION ERROR OF AC BUS WITH COMPONENT B31 (C-AAC MULTIFUNCTION SENSOR)
12) B1021 COMPONENT N22/4 (REAR BLOWER ELECTRONIC SELECTOR WHEEL) HAS SHORT CIRCUIT OR IDLE SPEED. IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS FAULT CAN BE IGNORED IF NO BOOSTER BLOWER IS INSTALLED

I THINK FAULTS 1,10,11,12,13 ARE NOT APPLICABLE TO MY CAR SINCE I DOT HAVE THIS HARDWARE, I CHANGED THE AIR CONTROL PANEL TO THE LUXURY AAC BUT STILL THE REST OF THE HARDWARE IS THE STANDARD AIR CON.

For the guys that upgraded to the AAC digital control fascia: DID YOU CHANGE IN YOU CAR THE ENTIRE AIRCON HARDWARE WHEN YOU UPGRADED YOUR AIRCON? DID YOU FIT CHARCOAL FILTER, EXTRA 4 MOTORS, SUN SENSOR, AND MULTIFUNCTION SENSOR, HUMIDITY SENSOR, AND REAR BOOSTER BLOWER?

WHAT PARTS DO I NEED? HOW MANY WORN PLASTIC COGS/GEARS/LINKAGES AND WHICH ONES IN SPECIFIC? ALSO HOW MANY STEPPER MOTORS YOU THINK MIGHT BE FAULTY? CAN YOU PROVIDE PART NUMBERS PLEASE? I HAVE ALREADY ORDERED THE FOLLOWING:
A 203 830 00 32
A 203 830 00 33
A 203 830 01 40
A 203 830 02 40
I DID NOT ORDER ANY STEPPER MOTORS A2038201642 YET AS THEY ARE MORE EXPENSIVE AND NEED TO KNOW HOW MANY FAULTY I MIGHT NEED TO REPLACE (IF ANY)

Thank you in advance for your attention into this matter.

I've upgarded to the Luxury Climate Control Panel too.

I have not added any additional hardware, just swapped out the control panel. In fact when I had my car in for a service with a dealership, they rang me to say sorry, we're having toruble finding the charcoal filter that should be replaced!

They were surprised that this had been retrofitted. It had worked fine for a number of months but then started to play up.

I had some problems with the right hand side heating control not working. No matter what temperature you set (other than HI) it would blow cold on the right whereas the left side was completely fine.

I took the car to a Star equipped MB specialist (who was also surprised that I had retrofitted the Luxury Climate control panel). Star showed up a lot of errors. I can't remember the exact codes I'm afraid, like you suggest I believe that either:

a. Some of these errors are spurious as not all of the hardware is present

or

b. the climate control panel holds fault codes from the previous vehice

The specialist performed a reset of the actuators and cleared out a lot of the fault codes (some of them remain which suggests that a. may also be true).

Following this it has all worked fine...

Is it possible for you to swap out the panel for the original one to rule out any issues with the panel 'lying' about it's state - not sure if this would work but it may be worth a try.

Finally there is a key sequence on the luxury climate control panel to clear all fault codes, not sure if this is something that should really be done when retrofitting this part to clear all exisitng codes.

Hope this helps...

Hi A-AvantGarde,

Did you also have the same ticking problem as perdikoyla888?I have Luxury Climate Control as standard on my C200K and I have been getting the ticking noise from the left side of the front dash.I have been advised that it is the actuator motors and would cost £1000 to sort from stealers plus parts! You mentioned a specialist performed a reset of the actuators and cleared fault codes ,do you think this might sort my problem? I wounder if this type of issue would be covered mobilolife? my car is a 2001 model.

Thanks

The parts cost 20 pounds. The work required is to get the dashboard out of the way so that the stepper motors and gears are visible.

Way overpriced.

Does this noise go away after 30 secs, or is it contantly there?
Is it quite noisy or just audable? As I have a similar or same problem.

One would be a faulty actuator cog and the other would be a wobbly stepper motor.

Mine is very noisy for about 30 secs then goes, sounds like a tap dancer, any ideas? part number and cost?

a) remove and replace dashboard
b) dismantle AC box
c) replenish AC gas
d) replace AC drier

I know someone who can do it in an hour or two. I have heard many people pay for 8 hours labour.

The parts kit comes in a bag with all the cogs you will ever need.

It is not a DIY job unless you are the type that wants to do it badly and then have to ask what is wrong with the AC because you dont have 10 years experience to do it properly.

can you recommend and provide contact details for your man who can take off the dashboard to access AC?
